nc - both coaches are great every year, agree especially Beamer with lower rated players
 
bobstyles - i see 6.5 (-115) on the greek likely heading to TD as bookmaker is already, not much to gain if drops to 6 as opposed to going to 7 so now probably better if going with Syracuse
 
byrd - could be right, not the strongest play or much margin for turnovers with that low number

Thanks for sharing your insights, as always.  With you on Nebraska, Tulsa, Oregon.  Not against you on any, thank goodness.  Am now seriously considering Arizona.  Kick ass this season, bud.

always like to double check camp reports for teams involved in week one - not that much going on yet with limited scrimmages

Auburn - Todd named starting QB early than expected, Burns moved to WR, much better than alternative of having Burns play QB fraction of camp report from Aug 15

The scrimmage was the first for the Tigers since naming senior Chris Todd as the team's starting quarterback. With another full-speed scrimmage under the team's belt, Chizik was encouraged by what he saw on offense.

"It certainly lets the guys around Chris have a feel for snap counts and where he has tendencies to throw the football, things of that nature," said Chizik. "We moved the ball well, that was encouraging, and I hope that had something to do with it."

Chizik also saw some promising things out of junior Kodi Burns, who was playing his first scrimmage in his new role as a receiver.

"Kodi did a great job, he played some wildcat, played some receiver, had a nice run out of wildcat one time," said Chizik. "He is meshing into his new role very well with a great spirit and attitude and he will just continue to get better."

not much going on yet with LSU, Wisconsin or Nebraska as far as scrimmages or reports, other than Jefferson looked pretty good in one scrimmage other than 1 INT

biggjohn - most of the research spread out over the summer for week 1 and overall maybe 80-100 hrs over couple months, then maybe 15-20 hrs a week during season once already familiar with teams, GL this season

Good to see you back. I love the Wisky play because fans in Madison want to kick Coach "B" out of town. Two years ago I made this game my heaviest wager of the season. I think this game will be similar. John Clay and Zack Brown will pound this team with a dominant off. line. I have some concerns because both starting safety's are suspended. However, I don't think NIU can exploit the average Def.

Wisky was my biggest bet of the year two years ago in a siminlar situation. The Badgers crushed this undermanned team. CoacH "B" IS ON THE HOT SEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nostradamus, I think you right on with this game. Most people have no clue how loaded this Alabama team is, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Their defense is absolutely SICK this year  Their 2nd string defense is SICK for that matter. This defense is sooooo much better than the one that dominated Clemson in last year's opener. VT's offense will absolutely NOT be able to run the ball against that D. They can forget about that.

Last year's defense was only able to generate a tepid pass rush, and that's what really cost them the game versus Florida last year. This year you will see a ferocious pass rush, lead by a guy nobody has ever heard of (yet) - Marcel Darus. Mark my words, this guy is a monster, and will be a 1st round draft pick in 2 or 3 years.  In fact that defense has at least 4 (possibly 5) starters who will be drafted in the 1st round when they come out.

The question for VT will be whether Tyrod Taylor can make some plays in the passing game. I honestly don't think that'll happen either. In fact if has to put the ball up a lot, he'll throw at least 2 picks.

I don't see VT's offense scoring more than 10 points in this game, so I think your score prediction is very close. It may be something more like 20-3 or 27-3. Either way, I think your UNDER is a winner!!!

da punisher - what's happening buddy, recall having that game as well, NIU improved now however still not a good matchup imo as long as Wisky QB is decent, good point about coaching motivation, think Maragos and Valai will be fine hurts the depth though if any injury or substitutes, all the best this season
 
jimmy - good to see you around and looking forward to your insights again this year, avoiding pick six and turnovers deep will be key, expecting Bama to take care of the ball against ballhawking VT secondary however would expect Taylor to have a couple INTs hopefully not the pick six, VT best running play may be Taylor running for his life although claims he wants to stay in pocket more...maybe he better wait until Marshall to try that. chris997 - last couple years somewhere around post 50 already in this thread, each year is a new challenge - if .500 on games decided by 3 or less vs ATS (i.e. average luck in roughly 30 close ones), goal is roughly 120-90 each year and to do well on large plays, some years better or worse, GL

really only considering one other game later, Idaho team total under when available in couple weeks (should be around 25 based on side and total) - NM St defense might be tougher against run under Walker and should have more ball control, might have just taken NM St minus short number except not confident with QB situation
 
time to start checking out early look at week 2 matchups

Didn't want to sound like a dick, i really do respect your record and the amount of time you put into this. I am good with sec games being down here for the last 8 years but i have problems when i got out of this conference. 
I already played
nc st -4
LSU -16.5
I feel like MInn -6.5 should be my third and final bet for the first week in college.   It looks good on paper expecially with cuse new true freshman qb but do you see anything in here that would be caution for concern.

chris997 - neutral on SC-NCS, number sounds about right if considered two teams about equal and allow home field 3-4 pts, SC a little better on defense and NCS on offense, so I'll pass
 
anything you hear on SEC feel free to pass along, LSU sounds good, if UW can prove on the field they've improved that much (or get lucky for one game) so be it
 
have Minnesota as regular play, actually would rather Nassib was kept the starter so Paulus being named has no impact on it for me, i don't think he'll be as bad as some think however hope he is at least for first game
