Kansas St -3.5 @ Louisville: Unless this is a VASTLY different Louisville team than the one I saw no-show to in-state rival UK the other day this game is going to be a bloodbath. KSU has a rebuilt team frankensteined from some JuCo transfers. They appear to be working out very nicely. KSU has pounded every inferior team they've met. Louisville is surely another inferior team.

WVA -3 @ COL: While WVA isn't a bad team they're no super team. They were pretty lame against ECU. While they might be better prepared for this one I seriously doubt the altitude will help them any. Wha't more, anyone who thinks the lost of the start RB-Slayton hasn't hurt them hasn't been paying attention. Devine is fast but he's a waif between the tackles. If he doesn't get outside he gets nothing done. Will COL be able to slow WVA? Maybe. They're not all that coordinated defensively but they've got an edge @ QB and the WVA defense should be GASSED and bordering on useless by the 2h.

Baylor @ UConn -14: "We won a game against a Pac-10 opponent!!! We are the champions..." Yeah, that's right, Waco wackos. Now let's try against a team that can run the ball and play defense. Good luck with that.

Ohio @ Northwestern: Ohio has put up valiant struggles in their new spread offense...no wins, just valiant spread covering struggles. NU has NOT. They've won a couple of games but their defensive prowess has been subpar to say the least. Despite the new Defensive Coordinator they've continued to BLOW. The question is whether they will be able to run the football and get the GASSED defense some rest here and there. I think the easy win against Cuse got the coaches heads stuck in their asses. It's not always going to be that easy. Ohio also plays the spread offense (as of this year) and they've been making plays. I think putting a gassed defense against a reasonably successful offense is a recipe for another scrape it out and hope to get lucky win by a single score. I'll be shocked if this game is much different from the Duke sloth fest.

FAU @ Minnesota -6.5: Gophers have greatly improved and should win this game. That said, all their games have been close (the BGSU game was close until the Falcons quit in the 4Q). FAU is again being touted as the cream of their sad little crop and they may be but there's no reason to think they'll win here. This is a bit of a grudge match for the Gophers and don't think they'll be letting off the gas. They've got some momentum and FAU is going to be battered after their dance with MSU last week. I got tired and sore just from watching that one. That said, U of M doesn't have nearly the O-line nor D-line that the Spartans have. FAU should put some points on the board against this highly suspect Gopher D. Enought to cover? There's a pretty fair chance of that.

ECU -8 @ NCSt: HA, HA!!! How much are the Pirates favored by? Oh yeah, the ACC is a true BCS powerhouse. Clemson didn't really show up (or played down to the Wolfpack) and still whomped them handily. Big surprise. The ECU Pirates are the real sleeper pick for the BCS. They've already made their bones and this should be another win for them. Last year's game featured much better QB play from NCSt (Evens) and much worse from ECU (Kass). Neither of those guys will be starting this week. The NCSt O-line is looking even worse than when they started the season (injuries (TE, OG). Seems pretty obvious the Pirates should win but the home field refs could easily step on the scales and swing the 2 score spread to the Wolfpack. They're going to need to step awfully hard for this one.

Temple @ Penn State -28: Seems like an awfully big number for a team that's clearly going to be looking ahead to next week's start of Big Ten play. Seriously, no one on the Nittany Lions' team should doubt that they'll beat the Owls like a redheaded stepchild but there is a VERY good chance they won't care to do so. Temple has to be really irate after their last to razor thin losses. This one won't be razor thin. I'd naile PSU -21 in a heartbeat but there is a very good chance this is the game in which Joe Pa lets the scrubs prove themselves. No reason to open up the playbook for Zook to strategize against. PSU just wants to go out and win the game. DiMichelle has been a serviceable QB for the Owls but even the PSU scrubs could eat him alive in this game. Too close for me to call.

Iowa @ Pitt -1.5: The dreaded first distraction filled roadtrip for the Hawkeyes. Anyone else think they'll forget to play football this weekend? Musical interception prone QBs are not going to help the effort. Sure, Stull sucked for the Panthers to start and the running game was a ghost of last season's production but the whole of this can be chalked up to a new look offensive line. It seems the O-line has worked the kinks out and while IA has a much better defense than the Buffalo Bulls (at least in theory) the Pitt offense should see a huge improvement again this week. After all, Pitt has had an off week to prep for this one and the Hawkeyes just got done with an emotional slugfest win over the IASt Cyclones. All things considered, -1.5 is a JOKE, EASY COVER FOR PITT.

Troy @ OSU: With their Big Ten opener next week there's no reason to think the recently deflated Buckeyes will put their balls to the wall to cover a number which is HUGE when you consider Troy plays solid defense, competent offense (when focussed) and OSU has not been impressive without C.Wells. That said, there's obviously going to be a talent mismatch. I see OSU playing down to Troy while Troy tends to play up to quality opponents. I figure it's going to be a close game (2 scores)....is there something I'm missing?

Central Mich @ Pur(don't): These two teams are nearly identical to last year's crop. 3rd meeting in the last 370 days is intriguing. Anyone else think both of them were looking past their last game a bit? I expect banner performances from both offenses and nearly useless performances from both defenses. CMU should be _able_ to cover. Doesn't mean they will.

Bama -9.5 @ Arkansas: Alright, alright, am I the only one to notice that Arkansas has TRULY SUCKED!?! Clearly not. Bama has come out of the blocks with their guns blazing (yeah, I'm mixing metaphores). Bama _should_ be able to win by 2 scores and then some. Trouble is this may be another dreaded SEC road game. I'd guess it's going to be a national TV game since the Tide has a good following. All of these factors point to a Razorback cover...not so fast. Why have the hogs been so attrocious? New coach (w/new offense)+dearth of talent = catastrophe. Just add competent opponent (which they haven't faced yet) to get a home blowout rcipe that can't be beaten. I watched Arkansas v UL-Monroe game. I endured 2.5 hours of torturous ineptitude and sloth that I'll never have back. Combine with a week of prep for a game that didn't happen and mix vigorously with thrown off rythmn and emotion to really create some turmoil. I expect calls for Petrino's head after this weekend's impending debacle.

UCF @ BC: The Knights are coming off a near win over an obviously distracted SoFla team. Don't read too much into that except to say that clearly they can execute when they need to but won't win games against obviously superior opponents. BC is NOT an obviously superior opponent. They totally shit the bed vs GATech. How much better will they be against a team for which they are almost certainly NOT specifically preparing? Attentive UCF DBs will be the difference. Crane is not ready for prime time and he might well be dwelling on the loss 2wks ago....or he just might not be any good under the pressure of the home lights. It's not like their first game @ Kent State prepared them for anything.

Eastern Mich @ Maryland: Things we know: EMU SUCKS!!! They stink out loud in every way. Maryland does NOT prepare for opponents they don't deem threatening. They screwed off and split their first two and barely took one of them. With Clemson on their plate for next week who do you think the Terps are preparing for?

CMU appears to be one of those teams that literally does not care how it does in these out-of-conference, revenue titls.  I think Clemson dropped 70 on them, and Purdue killed them in the regular season game before getting all they wanted in the bowl.  Until I see CMU try in one of these games, they are not backable.

JH< you've surely been gambling long enough to know that things that seem too good to be true usually are....i.e.   public pounding the shit out of WVU and KSU with the lines moving the opposite way.   I wonder why those lines are set so low?......hmmmm.....they are "trap games" or "tricks", they're accurate set lines based on more statistics or power rankings than anyone one Covers has the time or energy to think about.  Those bright shiny hotels and casinos in AC and LV were built on lines like these (and table games of course).  GL, man, but be careful......i know you know better.

Akron -8 @ Army: Someone's gotta win, right? Akron defensive is line is battered and fried but Army didn't even start with decent players. Kind of a wash. The Option truly hasn't taken off with the Knights and their loss to New Hampshire is all the bad news one needs to find their performance truly failing to meet the pathetic expectations. If Akron can field any kind of defense they should be able to abuse the sad, sad Black Knights.

MSSt @ GATech: Talking heads say that MSSt _had_ offensive hopes and dreams this season. For the life of me I can't figure why. Tech plays some pretty respectable defense and I don't figure MSSt will put 14pts on the board against them. Let's not go patting the defense on their backs just yet either. Auburn was mired in their injuries and self congratulation while looking ahead to LSU this week. Many teams could have held them to a one point win. Will MSSt be looking forward to LSU next week? Will it even matter? Yellow Jackets -7....TO THE BANK, BATMAN!!!

Buffalo @ Mizzou: How did the Bulls get talked into this bloodbath? Didn't catch much of the Tigers game but Buffalo looked pretty unimpressive in their squeaker over the Owls. mizzou could easily cover -34. Mizzou should notch a TD on every possession. Buffalo, not so much.

Zona @ UCLA: If only the Wildcats could play on the road. If only the Bruins could find a QB or an offensive line. If Bell doesn't run for UCLA they're hosed.

Wyoming @ BYU: So, where do we go from here? After beating UCLA like a $2 person the Cougars face their Mt West whipping boy, Wyoming. If the Cowgirls' nailbiter win over NDSU doesn't convince you of their football prowess you're not alone. I don't know if 28 is too little or what. I'm guessing the Cougars are going to be a little flat after their pummeling of the Bruins but who knows. I've found it tough to call games where there is NO chance the dog will win.

UL-Monroe @ Tulane: Why, why, why are the Green Wave the big fave pick here? They surely haven't been impressive. The real question to ask is "which QB is due for a melt down?" I think we know the answer. Tulane coach is talking about taking their QB, Moore, from the "don't lose the game" to the "let's win the game" mindset. AM I REALLY THE ONLY ONE WHO THINKS THAT MIGHT CAUSE SOME PROBLEMS? Lancaster has been there and done that for UL-M. He'll show up. Moore has not. Green Wave -6 is a SUCKER'S BET...you do know that last year's start RB-Forte is with the Chicago Bears now, right? Take the Warhawks ATS or SU.

Do the people that will put their hard earned money on UL know the situation this team is in?  Oh no that's right KSU is a public play, thats all that matters.  Well me and 70% of the public are going to have one hell of a night drinking and celebrating while you guys are scratching your head saying why did I bet on the cardinals again?

You're not wrong. The talking heads i.e. "sharp money" are over thinking this one. The Cards have a rebuilt offensive line that can't get them ANY rushing yards. Their defense was disorganized and slapdash at best and when their QB, whatshisname gets enough time to deliver the ball the rookie moron recievers DON'T CATCH IT. How are you going to win against a decent team with a chip on their shoulder like KSU? I guess a part of me remembers Texas A&M @ Miami last season but two different programs altogether don't add up to this meeting. Are the Wildcats looking forward to their game with LA-Lafayette? Although this is a nat'l TV game the Cards could easily be looking ahead to a WINNABLE conference game vs UConn next week. The situation is not nearly as simple as some believe. While last season's KSU team faded hard down the stretch this is a team rife with JuCo transfers with ample talent and something to prove.

Boise St @ Oregon -10.5: Quax lose another QB. That's par for the course in Eugene. They've got a couple of adequate subs. The real question is whether the Broncos can show up on the road for a change or will the Quax shut down Ian Johnson and his groupies. With their new O-line I'm not prepared to say the Broncos can win or ven compete on the road against a team of Oregon's calibre. With the new Oregon QB (whoever that may be) looking to prove himself this could be a long day to be a Bronco.

FLA @ TENN +7: Show of hands: WHO ELSE THINKS TENN THREW UCLA A WIN IN WK1? What a farce. If their long snapper hasn't bet against the team again they've got a reasonable shot at covering. They're in the perfect place to play SEC East sleeper AGAIN. Anyone else think this went into odds makers' minds when they set this line? FLA is what they're supposed to be. They've got a lot of listed injuries but what does that mean for a team that recruited their 2nd stringers while ranked #1 in the nation? I'm just wondering why FLA has NO RB threats. For years it's been all pass happy bs. When you go on the road and don't get the pass interference calls this will crush your team's potential. The Tenn defense is not inconsequential but their offense is intermittent. They "play when they want to play" ala Randy Moss. This will be a typical SEC road game where the better team on the road probably doesn't cover because they get flack from the refs. I can't speak to the FLA defense because they haven't faced a team that has a real QB or O-line.

Houston @ CSU: The battle of the new coaches. One team can't get anything together. The other can't run the ball...or play defense. I'm thinking the home team has the edge. CSU could win outright. Given the hurricane distraction I'm a little bit amazed CSU isn't a 3 pt fave. Neither one of these teams has improved from last season. Which one is the bigger loser?

Rutgers -6 @ Navy: How the hell is Rutgers a fave again? Has no one learned? They might actually cover against the Middies. Someone has to win, right?

Notre Dame @ Michigan State -7.5: Yeah, the Irish are "undefeated" with only a lot of help from the zebras. By all rights they could easily be 0-2 if not for a little officious interference. Anyone think that will follow them on the road to Michigan State? Neither do I. Michigan State could be 3-0 but for a Pac10 ref's denial of a legit touchdown @ Cal....and you all wondered how Maryland beat Cal last wknd. Can't bring the refs on the road. Given the marked lack of an Irish offensive line, heavy MSU ground game, quality arm on Hoyer and no love lost between these programs this should be a blood bath. I'd take MSU -17 if it were out there.

VA Tech @ UNC: What's the matter with the Hokies? Aside from their normal slow start, this year's recruiting class was crippled by the campus shootings of 1.5yr ago but that's not the whole story. The VA Tech game is predicated on controlling the line and hoping and praying their QB can complete a few passes. Glennon has been lousy and Taylor never was superman either. I don't expect much from this team except to keep games close and win some, lose some. That's what teams like this are good for. Could they win this one? Sure. Will they? Don't ask me. UNC is bound to get run over by the Tech RBs and Tie-Rod (is Cam-Shaft playing too?) but they'll probably take a pick from Taylor also. Will the Hokie defense shut down the efficient Tar Heel passing game? Doubtful. I'm all about the O44.5 in this one. I'd be shocked to see less than 28-21 final.

Utah -8 @ Air Force: Really? 8? I'm expecting this one to be an utter humiliation. Air Force has drawn a couple of opponents that COULD NOT stop the run in Houston and Wyoming. Utah is not that team. This game will be won in the trenches and Utah dominates on both sides of the line. Take the Utes to the bank.

Utah is not that team. This game will be won in the trenches and Utah dominates on both sides of the line. Take the Utes to the bank.
