this is an outlier opinion, obviously. but i think Wisconsin should've been #4. one loss to a good Ohio St team by a handful of pts. my opinion only.

I just don't see rewarding a team that didn't play the last weekend.

Wisconsin beat 12 teams out of the top 25.  The weakest schedule of anyone competing for a spot.  Ohio St. tried to give them the game by making way to many mistakes and they still lost.  The offense didn't even break 300 yds of offense against a very average Ohio St. D.  They had no shot without a win.

Auburn is NOT better than Bama....they are not better than Georgia...home field in college football is HUGE, especially in the SEC...which is how Georgia crushed Auburn yesterday and Bama would smash them at home as well...

The Big 10 is not good, very happy Wisky lost as they would have lost by 20+ to Clemson, as would have OSU...

You nailed it. conference championship games are officially meaningless. bama was rewarded for losing a winner take all game and as a bonus get to sit at home resting while other teams play an extra game. That extra game and the risk that comes with playing it is something no espn stooge will ever discuss.

Conference title games are right up there with instant replay, Fox Sports, and alternate uniforms on my list of recent horrible cfb innovations.

Wrong.  Home field doesn't mean d*ck in the SEC.

I don't think that's exactly as crazy as it sounds, but I do think it's been less true of late.  15 years ago, stadiums were smaller, and visiting fans seats were not located in the parking lots.  Thus, in the SEC, you'd often have 7,000-10,000 visiting fans (27,500 at Vandy) who tended to be drunker and louder, and really did seem to give the road team a boost.  Those equations have changed some now; and, even though SEC fans still travel in silly numbers (nothing else to do until fishing season), home games are really home games these days.  Lord, Auburn would give the Packers a run at home.

There's nothing magical about wining a conference title, so I would be careful about imposing some sort of rule around that.  Still, there is something perverse about being able to benefit from not having to play.  I really have no idea what you can do about that, except, perhaps, to make it clear that "in the case of ties we'll go with the conference champ."  Of course, we could also just get rid of them all.

The better argument is not why is ohio state not in but rather why is auburn not in. Yes a 3 loss auburn over 1 loss bama. Auburn cannot be penalized for losing a third game because they played a 3rd game and incurred the extra risk in a conference championship. Alabama stays at home and got to rest and heal. Auburn beat two playoff teams and dominated alabama. Anyone who saw the auburn alabama game knows that was not a close game. It was a thorough and convincing auburn victory. Alabama played one meaningful game all season and lost it. Auburn had nothing left in the tank in the Georgia rematch. They should not have been punished for that. The debate should not be why was ohio state left out but rather why was auburn left out. There is no rational basis for stating alabama is "better" than auburn.

A team should make the CFP based on their merit and achievement not sitting out conference championship weekend.we are in an era where Alabama in simply deemed better and put in. They never really lose. If they dont win the cfp they will be pre season #1 next year. There is always a catch or an excuse as to why they are always to be included. Saban last year said conference champions should be in. He will honor no previous comments when his team stands to lose. This year he was on the other side of the fence. His hypocritical comments ring hollow with me. Karma is a bitch and my take is the era of Saban is winding down and he will never win another championship at alabama.

Ok...  don't penalize their 3rd loss.    Penalize their 2 losses and since no team has made the Playoff with 2 losses the case is closed

actually we are discussing finding the four best teams, which is the stated goal of the cfb not what joey galloway says on espn. the cfb chair  said  he "felt" bama was better. what a scam. I call bs on that nonsense. auburn advanced farther along the path to the cfb than alabama. alabama benefits from a week off and no extra game. Vegas can say bama would be favored but this aint about vegas. Auburn beat bama in a winner take all.  Bama cannot advance by losing, especially losing their last game. I saw auburn man handle bama and if the goal is to find the four best teams, the committee failed with respect to bama and auburn. Auburn  had a better resume than bama. A non conference non division champ with a free pass and a week off from a 13th game. what a travesty.

PS: a two loss auburn conferencd champ would have made the cfp.

Until conferences play everyone, there will always be the risk for this scenario.
forget this season for a moment. if It was UGA/Auburn in the championship game and UGA was 8-4 but won the game, would they deserve to be in over Alabama who let's say was 10-2? Of course not. The flaw is in having divisions within conferences. Conference championship game winners aren't a good measure of the best team in the conference because they don't always include the 2 best teams.
Before this season, the winner of Clemson/FSU always faced a team in the championship game that was usually weaker than the Clemson/FSU loser.
