I will confess to finding this particular selection quite fascinating, if only as an academic exercise.  I truly don't know if there is a right answer to all of this.  I must be missing something, because I think Clemson should be in the "maybe" mix, but apparently not so much.  Nothing would surprise me.  I'd probably have OSU in and Bama out, but suspect it will be the other way around.

I can only assume that USC is in the mix to try and get more than 11 people in LA to watch this thing.

I don't understand Clemson as #1.  They not only have a bad loss, they have a loss to a bad team.  Not sure anyone has a better resume than Georgia.

Bama hasn't looked very good for a month.  No bad losses; no great wins.  Ohio State has two better wins in two weeks than Bama has all year.

This would be a funny year for the SEC to get two teams in.  SEC not great.

Clemson probably has the most forgivable loss since Bryant was hurt and it was on a short week.   Ohio State has no excuse for Iowa.  That's the difference to me.   Bama was unspectacular in 2 of their 3 biggest wins also (LSU/Miss St)

Clemson barely lost to a respectable Syracuse team after their qb was hurt and it was on the road-

Georgia got absolutely smacked around in their loss although it was by a good Auburn team-

Clemson is worthy of the #1 ranking IMO-  I believe they have the best wins and hardest schedule-  They have a great shot to win it again but I am pulling for Oklahoma with that offense

So many variables to consider.......the Clemson loss w/o their qb..........OSU beats PSU by a point after a 3 hour storm delay, but gets blown out by a 7-5 Iowa. Many bitched about Hornibrook last night, but Barrett was pretty bad too........he actually kept Wisky in the game..........SEC is down but so is the Big Mac.........tough call.

Give the committee credit, putting Alabama in makes total sense. One of the four best.

I think I kind of said the opposite.  I'd probably take OSU, but think Bama will get in.  Is OSU "better?"  Who knows.  They have better wins and sketchy losses.  Bama has one good loss.  Toss a coin.

Auburn Tigers got ripped off, IMO they should be in the playoffs and not the bulldogs, they beat Bama, Bulldogs game is a wash, 4 teams in the championship games, Auburn beat both of them, LoL The Tigers would had beat OSU and Wisconsin.

The head of the CFP committee was on ESPN radio last wek. he was asked about Clemson being #1.

He said Clemson has 9 wins over top 40 teams.(Now 10 after South Carolina win)

No other team had more than 5.
That was the deciding factor in Clemson being #1 last week. Therefore, why would they drop out of 1 after smashing Miami?

Injuries hurt Auburn down the stretch. They aren't the same team that beat UGA  the first time. It's hard to make top 4 with 2 losses. NO 3 loss team is getting in,

Fair point.  When I say I pay no attention to the Playoff, I'm not kidding.  He may have said they were going to invade Prussia next week and I wouldn't have known.  Sounds like them being #1 is ok.  Somebody has to be.

Clemson was getting beat when the qb went out mid game, a loss is a loss. They still deserve to be 1 but I bet they wish the were 2 haha.

Bama has no quality wins and looked brutal against Auburn who turned around and lost haha. Bama is still the favorite to win it all.

My God, Auburn has 3 losses and USC beat only 1 ranked team I think? Stanford twice? Whatever, PAC 10 is down big.

It is bs but everyone knew they would do whatever to get Bama in. OSU fans travel great but Bama brings in the viewers. It is all about the f’ing money!

Well, it was a pretty big letdown spot, but it shouldn't have turned out like that.

Bryant was injured before the game even started.  What happened in that game is irrelevant to any analysis of whether Clemson (with a healthy Bryant) is "better" than any other team.

What's really ridiculous is that Bama is in over Auburn.  Auburn is "better" than Alabama, no doubt about it.  The Committee is full of spit with its alleged criteria.  Four best teams are Clemson, Auburn, Georgia, and Oklahoma, not necessarily in that order..

Indeed. alabama sits at home while other teams had to play yesterday and inherit the risk of playing a 13th game. So as of today conference championships are meaningless. Alabama got rewarded by sitting out yesterday. A non division,  non conference champ whos best win was miss state and 2nd best win was colorado state sits out championship saturday. Not one pundit on tv or radio spoke about rewarding teams who play the extra game and taking the additional risk of losing or injury. Clemson should not have played yesterday and said f that. A two loss clemson has a better resume than alabama.

Auburn passes some eye tests........until you eye the "3" in the loss column. Had they won last night we would've had a two-loss team in the playoff.

Yes.   Auburn HAD a chance to get in and failed.  That is on them

One thing that bugs me now in hindsight...  why did the Committee even drop Bama out of the top 4 last week?   Did they really feel that Wisconsin was better than Bama?  Would that criteria have still held if Wisconsin had won last night?   Would they sit here today and tell Bama fans that Wisconsin is a better team?
