Great start to the season oddsbuster
Just a note about South Carolina. The first 2 games this year (ECU and UGa), Gamecocks were without 4 DBs (3 were projected starters) and my personal belief is that is why they played that soft zone nearly every snap.
The next week played an unconventional offense in Navy ( although still without 3 of those DB's).
However last week vs. Vandy they got CB Victor Hampton back and even though a RS Freshman he may be SC's best corner. Gamecocks played man most of the night and let that DL do their thing and the result.....77 total yds for Vandy (27 of that was on the last drive against 2nd & 3rd string), 6 sacks, 12 QB hurries and 1 of 14 3rd down conversions. I realize that was a weak offense but still a strong performance.
This week they get S Brison Williams back, also a Freshman but was a projected started in camp before injury and if he comes as advertised will only improve this defense.
On offense this will be the week for the much anticipated debut for WR Damiere Byrd (true Freshman who served a 4 game suspension). Byrd is small at 5'9 165 but is one of the fastest, if not THE fastest player in Gamecock history. He was outstanding in preseason camp.
Another note and one a lot of people do not realize. Stephen Garcia's grandfather passed away on Wednesday. He had been ill for a while. August Garcia was Stephen's biggest fan and it seems Stephen felt the same way about his grandfather. This may have contributed to Garcia's play so far this season and his unemotional reactions especially as of late. What does this mean for Saturday????? Will he be inspired or will his mind be on something else. Just a note, it was his grandfather who told Garcia he wanted a win over Alabama and he responded with his best performance in his career.
This one man's opinion is no matter which QB shows up, Carolina's the better team and against Auburn's pourous D they win 41-21.
