Las Vegas police say a gunman robbed the posh Bellagio hotel-casino early today of more than $1.5 million in chips then fled on a motorcycle, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
According to the newspaper, police say the man wore a full-face motorcycle helmet and leather jacket when he walked into the pit area around 3:50 a.m. and demanded the chips.
"It was a very quick, in-and-out type of job," said Lt. Mark Reddon, the newspaper reports.

Bellagio has had security issues in the past. This thief still faces the task of fencing the chips which could prove to be very difficult. chips 100 and up have rfid's in them with unique serial #'s and are all traceable and any cranberries have to be floor verified before cashing.
Reminds me of the the guy who robbed the McDonalds by writing a note on the back of an application, but filled out the application w his real info. This guy gets caught w/in 48 hrs.

Youre right, thought I typed 1000. Still the majority of the dollar figure has to be large denomination chips. If they were all 500 chips it would weigh roughly 70 lbs right? Heavy load to be carrying for an in and out. Just seems silly to me. Risk does not outweigh reward here...

I live in Vegas and heard about that bro. Crazy stuff. Not too smart of him to take chips - esp. cranberry $25K ones - that he cannot cash out. They have gangs out here too that rob casinos and hop the cage with no regard for human life. It's saddening.

he is not going to be able to cash his chips .. they are supplied with security sensors.. which the casino will know once these chips gets cashed..
still. this dude had some major balls to pull such thing
We went over this.... he will be able to cash in the ones that are $1000 and under. Bellago only puts the transmitters on the chips that are over $1000.... Basically, he'll still be able to move some money around but no where near the 1.5 million..

No doubt in my mind this was an inside job. But no way are any casinos going to accept chips from the Bellagio. So this guy won't get nearly a million bucks off this, but whatever chips he got that are $1000 and less he will probably find a way to cash.
