There's an angry lady running around the forum, callin people names for going 1-1. Tough crowd. Beware.
1* New Mexico Lobos -3.5
Defense wins this time of year, and New Mexico has the better one. They've won every NIT game thus far by double digits, albeit, those games were played at The Pit where they have a great home court advantage. They've covered 6 straight games. Most importantly for me, Tulsa relies solely on the 3pt shot for their scoring. Problem for them is, the Lobos carry the 10th best 3pt% defense in the entire country. I'm also willing to bet the Lobo faithful will travel fairly well up to Hinkle. More so than Tulsa at least.
1* Illinois St Redbirds +6.5
First, Normal, Illinois is about 2 hours from Hinkle Fieldhouse. This crowd will be VERY pro ISU. It's a long way from Auburn, AL. Not to mention, outside of people connected to the basketball program, there probably aren't many Auburn fans who give a shit about this tournament. Auburn hasn't covered a spread this whole tournament, despite playing three games in The Jungle. They've covered just 2 of the last 10 in fact. Auburns defense isn't good enough to be favored by 3 possessions over anyone. I'll also take ISU on the ML at +245.
1* Creighton Blue Jays -4.5
Throw the season numbers out, Coach McDermotts going away parade begins today. He's announced this is his last year coaching at Creighton, and that's all the motivation I need to back them. The man put Creighton basketball back on the map, bringing them from the Missouri Valley Conference, to the Big East. His significance to the program won't be lost on his players, and they will give everything for him tonight. Not to mention, the fans will travel to see coach one last time, plus it's Vegas. On the flip side, Rutgers can't wait for this season to be over.
