Close relative is a host at MGM Grand, got a text from him this morning that last night the casino blocked off 1000 hotel rooms for "highest level VIP invited guests"  weekend of May 1 - May 3rd. This is in addition to the standard 200-250 rooms they typically have blocked off for a regular casino weekend in May. Hosts were given no additional explanation as to "why" the additional rooms but according to him with 20+ years at MGM only other weekends they would ever have that type of room allotment was Tyson or Holyfield fight weekends from 90's - 2000's.

Guess we will wait and see ..........

Yeah....Holyfield heavyweight fights absolutely drew way more casino guests for the weekend then De La Hoya on ANY weekend.

Stop being such an behind clown on here......just passed along a piece of information and since you seem to be self professed god of all information there are 8-10 boxing websites that are reporting as of today that the deal is done.

Just passing along a piece of information .... as the title of thread said "take if for what it's worth" and if you want to leave it please be my guest. Hopefully others will appreciate.

only one or two sites from the UK are saying their sources tell them it's a done deal.

    did fightnews say it's a done deal?  boxing24?  boxing.com?

NOPE.  none of them are calling it a done deal.  they are citing reports that it is a done deal but stephen espinoza a showtime exec is saying no contract is even complete yet therefore manny could not have signed one!!

    from gmanetwork.com:

Pacquiao-Mayweather fight not a done deal yet — Stephen Espinoza

Tags: Floyd Mayweather Jr. , Manny Pacquiao
Showtime executive vice-president Stephen Espinoza denied a report that negotiations for a P10-B mega-fight between the Filipino ring icon and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao, and undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. are already a done deal.

Espinoza turned to Twitter to refute the article by the Telegraph Sports, which interviewed an unnamed source from Pacquiao's camp.

The source said Pacquiao has finished his contractual agreements on Saturday, while Mayweather is set to put down his signature on the contract in the next few days.

In an earlier interview, the Sarangani representative also said that the fight is already sealed and only needs to be signed. The official announcement, however, will be made by the American boxer.

The fight is scheduled on May 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, with the fighters reportedly agreeing to a 60/40 split in favor of Mayweather.

Not a UK site....here is 1 of 10 reporting as of late last night / today.....

    https://www.boxingnews24.com/2015/02/mayweather-pacquiao-fight-to-be-announced-on-sunday-during-nba-all-star-game/

Also, check yourself.....the MGM / Mandalay Bay / Bellagio all raised room prices this morning to basically starting at $400+ a night for Friday / Saturday night stays. Not exactly your standard early May weekend rate in Vegas. You clearly aren't aware of how the fight game plays itself out in the hotels and how pricing works around these type of events.

Reality is you can find 1000 reports it's done and 1000 it isn't you want to know the truth start to look at what is going on and being said other than in the press. I don't know if the fight will actually happen of not but I can assure you the above information is absolutely what happened today.

The American sites are citing reports that spawn off a UK site.

May and floyd are not fighting 5/2. No way

Maybe they're raising room rates based on rumors. Smart business move by the hotels
Means zilch regarding whether the fight is a done deal though

You really need to stop !!!! ....the more you say the more ridiculous you sound.....everyone knows Maywhether is fighting May 2

HE ALWAYS FIGHTS THAT WEEKEND IN VEGAS !!!

If you think Maywhether fighting Cotto raises or even impacts hotel rates you are crazy. I went to the Maywhether Cotto fight last time around and literally walked up to counter and bought tickets an hour before card started. Maywhether Cotto only SOLD OUT on night of the fight.

Give a day or two and we'll what shakes out ...... keep in mind I have been posting the last 2 weeks I didn't think fight wouldn't happen so news I got from relative last night was as much a surprise to me as anyone.

Yeah cause all the rumors about potential fight just started....
MGM hotels probably had no clue about potential fight until yesterday.

Wonder if they even know they would be hosting the fight???

Mayweather has been adamant for many mos that he will fight 5/2/15 at the mgm grand and manny had to stipulate to it and agree. Mayweather fighting 5/2 is the worst kept secret in the boxing world lmao

UHHHHH.....exactly my point in every one of these texts so your answer of hotels changing rates because of Maywhether potentially fighting someone other than Pacquio makes no sense. You are now talking about of both sides of your mouth in order to just be a pain in the behind......

Mayweather has fought 9 times in the month of May with 6 of the opponents being Latino.

In 2007, Mayweather fought De La Hoya at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, May 5th, after ducking Margarito.
in 2010, Mayweather fought Mosley at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, May 1st, after ducking Pacquiao by claiming he was a steroid user.
In 2012, Mayweather fought Cotto at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, May 5th, after calling out Pacquiao in 2011.
In 2013, Mayweather fought Guerrero at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, May 4th, after calling out Pacquiao in 2011.
In 2014, Mayweather fought Maidana at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, May 3rd, after calling out Pacquiao in 2011.

This is nothing but a business decision on the MGM's part.

Mayweather fought at the MGM in 2010, 2012, 2012, 2013, 2014 and Mayweather announced to the world that he plans to fight in May at the MGM on Showtime in December.

Of course, casinos are going to capitalize on the trend, I agree with hendrixandsrv that this is complete bullsh!t.

    Correction "It's supposed to say 2007, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014"

I knew it that Espinoza would deny the report. That juice swallower must get paid big bucks to get on his knees and take loads to the face for Mayweather.

    Mayweather was extra butthurt today...

"Can I ask you a question?" Mayweather said. "Please, can I ask you a question? Is this a boxing match? Are we at a boxing match?
No, this is the All-Star game. I'm at an All-Star event. Please respect my privacy. I don't want to answer any questions."

The word MAY is just a possibility. Read the sentence very carefully before responding.  "Refer" did not say it's done.

Refer is pointing to rooms in vegas going for $400 per night as a sign that the fight is most likely signed or folks in vegas know it is going to be.

the vegas folks don't know any more than i do.  the fight is nowhere near signed

Here is what I know to be 100% factually true.

    1) MGM is now holding over 1200 rooms for VIP elite level only guests for that weekend
    2) Standard rooms at the MGM for Friday Saturday night that weekend are now between $600-$650 a night on the MGM website. Not exactly a standard room rate for late April early May weekend.

Take the above and draw your own conclusions I have certainly drawn mine.

i believe they are doing this "just in case" the fight gets made.

it sounds like you have drawn the conclusion the fight IS made.

i say the fight is NOT made and will NOT get made for 5/2

i say may fights 5/2 but it will NOT be vs manny pac

those room reservations can always be canceled and the paying customers refunded the money.  perhaps the public thinks the fight might happen so they are booking rooms "just in case".

the las vegas strip namely MGM should get ready for TONS of cancelation/refund requests

James Muran quotes today on MGM Grand 4th quarter earning call for stock, just another proof source of exactly what I indicated over weekend in this post......

MGM is planning as if fight is going to happen and all signs point to that, if anyone outside of fighters knows what is going to happen it is certainly the MGM.
