In Fights...

I agree.  That loss to Prescott was crazy though.  What would happen if he fought Maidana?  Maidana is probably my favorite of the bunch.  How the hell did he lose to Kotelnik?

It's a scrappy opening, Malignaggi will be relying on counter-punching and is doing good work in close. Good left hand from Khan lands, he's looking to establish control in the centre of the ring with his jab. A good right from Malignaggi is countered with a fast right from Khan. It's high-tempo stuff. Khan looks by far the quicker to me even though its early. A good right over the top from Khan lands, his gift is his speed. A left jab from the champion, Malignaggi responds with a flurry of blows of his own. The crowd like that. The best work towards the end of the round is from Khan. A solid start.

Malignaggi misses with a huge upper-cut but does land a right. Khan backs up to the ropes but is untroubled. A left from Khan finds the target, the crowd continue to roar for the challenger but the British man is working well behind his jab. Malignaggi is trying to stand his ground but is caught with a big right. A warning for Malignaggi for punches behind the head. He's trying to take Khan out of his comfort zone. This is a good round for the challenger. He is caught with a left but the big right misses from Khan. Showboating now from the challenger who is growing in confidence. He has probably done enough to win this round, some of Khan's work was ragged.

Seems like a great crowd.  Exciting fight so far.  Great to watch. 

 

And Smoger keeps warning Khan for headlocks and pushing Paulie's neck.  Paulie is diving in though with his head low,  He ducks into Khan.

Round 3: People that took the -600 might be just starting to sweat here. These rounds are close and Paulie is the home fighter. Some of Khan's work seems tense, he is desperate to impress. He hasn't found his range yet. However this is better, working behind the jab. Better from Khan, a good combination but then he's caught off-balance with a left counter. Malignaggi is causing him problems. Good jab from Khan but there's nothing following it up. Malignaggi is growing in confidence. A right from the champion finds the target but is brushed off by Malignaggi. Khan is looking to increase the work-rate - he needs to. A close round to call.

Mack, I really think Khan is winning every round.  He's landing clean much more often than Paulie.

Round 4: Malignaggi is taking the fight to Khan in the early stages of this round but is rocked by a huge right. Khan is continuing to work behind the left jab and tries to land a left hook. Khan has yet to find his range and Malignaggi hits the target with a left. Khan counters and momentarily rocks Malignaggi, now he is looking to increase the pressure. More good work from the champion, this is his best spell of the fight. Malignaggi counters - this is an even round - the best of the bout so far.

Round 5: Khan tries to take control from the centre of the ring with his jab. Malignaggi is on the canvas, but from a push not a punch. A good left hand from Khan now though. Now a good right, he's finding his range. Malignaggi counters with a left and now they're trading jabs. Khan lands with a left hook but none of his punches have left their mark. Good right from Khan but then Malignaggi lands his own. This is a very even fight, a very even round. Khan lands a good combination and the first signs of the challenger being marked around the face.

I have it 4-1 but Khan is not dominating in my opinion

Round 6: Khan is ahead on the scorecards but this is no push-over. Malignaggi is surprising him with the angles of his punches. A good left from Khan though, that's better. Malignaggi is untroubled but more good work from the champion, solid jabs and combinations. He is growing in stature. Another good left as there are signs of disturbances among the crowd. Security is stepping in as Khan lands some more stinging jabs. This is a good round for the champion. A lovely right now, Malignaggi for the first time is blowing. He tries to come forward with a left of his own but Khan glances it away. Good right from Khan after two Malignaggi jabs excite his corner. Another big right hook and Malignaggi never saw it coming. This is Khan's best round so far. Another combination lands, the champion is settling into his work. Khan's round - his best of the fight so far.

Round 7: Khan's fight now. Malignaggi needs something to get his confidence back but Khan is remorseless with his jabs and is controlling the centre of the ring. The challenger can't get out of the way of the jab which continues to score heavily for Khan. A right from the champion has the challenger ducking for cover. Now they come together in the centre of the ring and are separated. Two lovely left hand leads catch Malignaggi flush on the chin. Punishing shots. Khan is taking total control now. Good combination, the punches are raining in now from Khan. His round again - he's going well now

Malignaggi needs to land something big.  Which he can't.

If Khan steps on the gas here, he might be able to stop him.  He's snapping his head back regularly with that jab.

Round 8: Khan continues to look to dominate from the centre of the ring. Malignaggi is throwing less and less. He needs to get more busy. Great body shot from the champion, then a fast combination. It's one-way traffic now. Two left leads land, then another. Khan would love to stop Malignaggi before the 11th, which is when Ricky Hatton did. The left jab continues to stun rather than hurt the challenger but it's not missing. Two more left loeads rock Maliganggi, he is being systematically picked apart by the left hand of Khan, ground down. Nothing is coming back. Two more lefts rock the American's head backwards. There's a weariness about his work now and the home crowd are silenced. Have a feeling Paulie could be pulled soon

Round 9: Khan is back in the centre of the ring, throwing out the jab which continues to find the target. Lovely right from Khan, Malignaggi is marked and it's hard to see how he gets back into this. More good combinations from the champion, his work-rate is increasing, the challenger's decreasing. A straight left lands flush on the Malignaggi chin. Once he's settled down Khan has taken full control. The left jab is a scoring machine for the champion, it isn't missing. A big right does though, still nothing from Malignaggi. He is lucky to escape punishment for a punch to the back of the head too. Malignaggi is rocked to the ropes with a big combination, another Khan round

Malignaggi fired McGirt for stopping the Hatton fight.  His corner is not going to stop this fight.  No chance.  They just told him he had a 'better' round.  WTF are they watching?

Khan would be crazy to fight Maidana who has monster power on both hands. If he gets caught its lights out. How can he go 12 rounds and not get caught by Maidana??

Round 10: Malignaggi told his corner to 'step on it' but it's Khan who is starting the brighter, more good jabs which just sting the challenger. A good right from Khan, it's been a telling shot for him. He has out-speeded Malignaggi too, which is no mean achievement. The right lands again, the challenger's corner are demanding he comes forward but what does he have left? Two more jabs rock his head backwards, he is frustrated and it's showing. Again the jab lands, Malignaggi is trying to dance now but still the punches from Khan find their target. The referee is looking at Malignaggi who is being picked off seemingly at will,

My over could be in trouble. Come on Paulie

Round 11: The doctor cheks out the challenger, his corner check if he's OK to continue. He is but he's cut, marked and in trouble. Khan is waiting for him in the centre of the ring. Malignaggi has to plead with the doctor to continue - he's still there but what has he left? Wonderful straight left rocks the challenger, then another. The jab has been the key to Khan's success. Malignaggi can't get out of the way of it - or a crisp left-hook. It's over - the referee has stopped it. Malignaggi is battered, bruised and bemused. Khan wins on his American debut. Terrific performance.

Maidana vs Bradley is the fight i want to see. I think Maidana will knock out Bradley in a war. Not that Bradly isn't a great fighter, but Maidana has the power and heart of a champion. Bradley is lacking a little in the power side, but has the heart of a champion.

Malignaggi is such a hard guy to hate once you hear his postfight interviews.  He's a dick leading up to the fight, but he's awesome in post fight interviews.  Despite his Brooklyn accent, I'd love to hear him in the booth when he retires.  Very smart.
