These out of control democratic politicians and their childish spending will ultimately send this country to rock bottom. And if you think we have been there you ant seen nothing yet.
Our local Mayor Tom Barret and his fellow democrats have been hellbent on building light rail transportation for quite sometime in Wisconsin. Our Governor Scott Walker was able to shoot down 2 of these ridiculous projects in which the citizens did not have a vote. But now, the king in the White House has granted the City of Milwaukee over $60 million to build a small train that travels in a circle in downtown Milwaukee that covers less than 2 miles.
The problem is if there was a demand for this service the private sector would have already taken care of it. There will be less than 100 riders a day on this thing and even know it is a federal grant, WI tax payers will be on the hook to maintain this thing to keep it going all because it is on rails. Curbs, sidewalks and the sewer pipes underneath will all have to be taken out and replaced. Thus, the 60+ million that will surely run over budget. There is no way possible to stop this thing now. In a poll taken a couple years ago only 41% favored the creation of rail transportation and in a referendum a few years ago there was an overwhelming NO vote.
We already have streets. For a small portion of the price tag we could build a fancy bus to cover the exact same area and stop the service when its obvious hardly anyone uses it.
I bet every state has at least 1 stupid tax payer funded project like this....I know 60-70 million is not much but multiply that by 50 states and then we are getting into real money, a few billion. While our National Debt is 16 Trillion, how will we ever put a dent in that when we cant even cut the easy $60 million unnecessary projects out of the budgets?

When I visited hawaii, there were signs all over as this seemed to be such a pivotal issue...
The former Democrat Governor of Hawaii Ben Cayatano ran for mayor based purely on the anti-rail position... but voters actually did not elect the former Democrat governor for mayor and instead voted for rail...
My opinion is that Rail is big business and similar to a halliburton scheme is simply a way to launder millions or billions of government/tax money into the private hands with contracts and blanks checks... My personal experience of Rail is that it actually increases crime and mobility of elements that might remain more centralized with out it.. so it cost money on the law enforcement end also...

definitely. we need to get rid of these democrats and all their wasteful spending on stupid pet projects and their favorite special interests so we can get some republicans in their who will spend the same or more money on their pet projects and their favorite special interests.
where my relative lives, the republicans spent a shitload of money (with the mayor's buddies getting the contracts) on some ridiculous monorail system that goes almost nowhere that nobody rides that cost a fortune to build and a fortune to maintain. and more recently, they spent a shitload of money on a state of the art courthouse when the one they had was perfectly fine during a recession.
but i guess wasteful spending is worse when the democrats do it because the republicans can say they are conservative and people will believe it.
