The prosecution is releasing documents and evidence to the defense.

And what do we find:

A medical report compiled by the family physician of accused Trayvon Martin murderer George Zimmerman and obtained exclusively by ABC News found that Zimmerman was diagnosed with a "closed fracture" of his nose, a pair of black eyes, two lacerations to the back of his head and a minor back injury the day after he fatally shot Martin during an alleged altercation.

Even more interesting:

Autopsy results show Trayvon Martin had injuries to his knuckles

WFTV has learned that the medical examiner found two injuries on Martin’s body: The fatal gunshot wound and broken skin on his knuckles.

Looks like the funeral home director was lying.
I'm shocked by that.

Those documents would seem to favor the defense, why are they being released by the prosecution?

29,
Discovery is the general process of a defendant obtaining information possessed by a prosecutor regarding the defendant’s case. It is required by law.

I didn't realize that the prosecution had to disclose information that would compromise their case. If I were the prosecuter I would be tempted to just zip it.

29,
the defense has to do the same. It is a big document dump, but neither party is required to disclose which pieces of evidence they will use or how it would be used.

From My Cousin Vinny when Marisa Tomei was talking to Joe Pesci...

"It's called disclosure dickhead. The prosecution has to release all of their documents otherwise there could be a mistrial. They aren't allowed any surprises. They forgot to teach you that in law school."

Yes, I saw the movie. I fully realize that both sides have to disclose any evidence that will be submitted during the course of the trial. I however did not realize that either side had to disclose evidence that they held, even if they were not planning on using it (especially when it actually discredits their case).

Prosecution most definitely does.  The defense has no such requirement.  Prosecution must turn over all possible exculpatory evidence whether or not they plan to use at trial.  It happens a lot that they don't.   Lots of guilty verdicts are overturned due to such "Brady" violations, if they are deemed serious enough.

it is funny how the 14daroad Alias has gotten so much "mileage" from this topic...

Hey Linesmen/Mods...  How is this political?

I figuring they know it isnt political and will pretend like they never saw this...

My guess is that with the bigoted history of the 14daroad Alias and the other aliases containing the rhetoric in the politics spares the other parts of the site from the cut/paste crap

By President Obama exploiting the tragedy of the Trayvon shooting for his own political purposes... Obama  made it a topic for  political discussion...not 14daroad.

Every bit of information that has come to light in this case has demonstrated the left lied about it.

An easy conclusion to make is the left lies as a manner of course, to further their political goals.

This info confirms that the boy was fighting for his life and was winning until  the grown-behind coward zimmerman pulled his 9mm,which is typical of the cowardly george zimmermans of the world that cant fight. both would still be alive if the coward had simply obeyed the instructions from the officer he was on  the phone with.

No. If the drug dealing, thieving, criminal pos had left his fucked up attitude and gold grill at home, he'd still be alive. Instead he attacked a man that was protecting his home turf and got what was coming to him at one point or another. obama and the rest of the black community as well as the media owe the Zimmerman family a huge apology.

it is interesting how two people on opposite ends of the spectrum can look at the same alleged facts and interpret them completely differently.  i.e. posts 19 and 20.

Yet as the comments above indicate, the emotional investment just can not be removed.
