and they can control it. we can all control just about everything we do. one of the most basic biological instincts is to eat. we can all choose not do to that. some biological urges are stronger than others. for child molesters, they are mostly otherwise very normal people. they just have a very strong urge to do this kind of thing.
so, if it is something difficult to control and maybe practically impossible to control for those without a strong will, then why is it a crime? crime and punishment have several goals and the crime against child molestation and child pornography satisfies one more than the others. that is, of course, the need to protect the public, namely children. so, you're right, it's not the traditional justification for crime like murder or armed robbery, but making it a crime does serve a very important purpose.
