Someone hijacked Arizona elections tonight

They actually voted out that POS Russell Pearce, it has to be those thug Arizona unions rigging the election.

Do the math, he would need a miracle to save the election.

The guy dug his own grave, but taking the 40k from the Fiesta bowl didnt help.

Too bad just another repub is taking his place, hopefully this guy is someone less abrasive and dictatorial than Pearce.

Wallstreetcappers,why is it that you see another Republican winning as too bad ?

What do you have agaist Jerry Lewis or is it just a bias against all "repubs" ....Lewis beat the most powerful politician in Arizona who had very deep-pockets and political tie outside the area...I would think ,that this defeat of Pearce by a a charter school executive,,would be a good thing... regardless of party ...

I live here Slim, I have a good grasp on the politics and parties here, what purpose does your message serve?

Arizona could use a bit more balance, that was my point..what is yours?

More balance ?

As of 2010, there are almost as many independents in Arizona as Republicans or Democrats.... At the moment, there are 929,000 unaffiliated and independent voters in Arizona, compared to 1,035,000 Democrats and 1.1 million Republicans.....sounds fairly balanced to me ......

..and the purpose of my "message " is to point out that just because a candidate is a "repub" it doesn't make his victory a bad thing ....as you posted.

I think it is about voting out anyone old and putting anyone new regardless of experience or ability... 

I will be watching this system closely

Not in this case..ole Russell got caught with his paw in the cookie jar and the voters signed a petition to recall him and that was the purpose of this election.

Rumor has it he will move on and take over Arpaio's position soon which is actually worse.

Slim, do you have a link for your voter info, and it is for the METRO area correct, not including Tuscon.

No,not metro .. for the State of Arizona ...

WSC, I do not have the exact link, but this one is similar... shows about the same shape ... and quotes the Secretary of State’s Office :

“Independents are now at 31 percent, which is just 1 percent behind the Democrats.”

Republicans are in the lead, but not by much.

Republicans have 1,319,389 registered voters, Democrats stand at 1,001,257, and Independents which are in the “other” category are at 953,503...

In 1960,Arizona's voter registration was 66% Democrat, 32% Republican and 2% Indy's .....in 1995 the Democrats and Republicans were evenly split with about one in ten identifying themselves as Independents .........Now, the are nearly split in thirds.......
 
To me ...this shows a shift in attitudes away from R/D's and towards Independents ..making the two party's work for their vote ..thats why I think it may feel like there are more Republicans, but in may be ..that Republicans are just working harder for the Indy vote in the state of Arizona........

Slim,

I live in the metro PHX area and I am certain that Tuscon skews the state numbers, but voter registration does not really mean much as does the percent of politicians in office. I am also curious if they are listing snow birds who keep residence here but only live half of the year and are not active voters..unsure there.

The demographics effect total numbers and as you travel south from Flag the numbers increase, but the representation does not. 

The original comment in which you were trying to nit pick was that I didnt know at the time was the recall did not include a solid dem candidate, so it swapped one for another which was unfortunate (IMO).

Removing him is a good thing, but having him swap with Arpaio is worse.
