freakin LSU has so much talent, but they are either not motivated or not disciplined enough to kick the living hell out of a bad team. I'll call them right now. They are a bunch of ******* with a capital P...They play when they feel like it. The average LSU starter's IQ is in single digits.
They may blow out Vandy, but they will probably scrape buy against an intellectually superior and better coached team...

There's one thing I don't like about LSU, and it's their play calling on offense. They're too conservative, and too stubborn to use what works.
Against Washington, their receivers are too much for the Huskies secondaries, but yet, they refuse to attacked them aggressively. Instead, they continue to pound the ball, right up the freaking middle, where Washington was man-handling the Tigers linemen. I can't even recall if they went deep once or not. The QB rollout, and runs to the outside were working effectively, but they continue to run up the middle. That's just stupid, and pig-headed. They need to understand, that they can't run over every damn team, every week. Learn to use different game plans. What's the point of recruiting talented receivers, if you don't plan on getting them the balls. Every freaking team knows you are a power run team, not very hard to defend something you expect.
But with that said, to beat LSU, in short, the team has to be able to throw the ball well. And last time I checked, that is far from Vanderbilt's strength. Their play callings are more like 65% run and 35% pass. That's not going to cut it.

LSU still has incompetent defensive coordinators. But at home, LSU should be able to weather this one out and win but no cover. Vanderbilt plus the points.

They got rid of those two coordinators last year. This year, they have John Chavis, former Tennessee defensive coordinator, and he's bringing his zone defense to LSU.
After watching them use it against Washington, I must say, I don't like it. They give too much of a buffer zone for the receivers. Hopefully, they can see the same thing on film and do a better job next game.

Warblade, don't count on them changing anything after watching film. Being a Vol fan, I watched Chavis play off the ball week in and out for what seemed like forever. Anyway, good luck against the 'dores.

Still amazed at how well UW played LSU, and how into the game the fans were...very impressive for a team that was 0-12. I thought Chavis would do better with the talent he has at LSU, but his work as a DC needs watching for tougher games. I think LSU covers at home, but small play until the defense mans up and the offense begins to roll. Jefferson looked good at QB, but Scott should be much more dominating as a runner. I look for his running to make the mobile QB shake free and run/pass over a smaller, slower Vandy. One of the best home field advantages in CFB. The person asses will be rocking for this home opener. Lay the points.

I'm glad you mentioned this. Normally, I take LSU the first 4 weeks of the season, and pick certain games or even fade them the rest of season, until bowl games. But this year, I might have to fade them early on, seeing how they failed to adjust to Washington, both offensively and defensively.
Maybe the trip to Washington did more bad for them then I thought, but I can tell that the coaches were asleep in that game, and that scares me more than anything else. Scheming/play callings is the coaching staffs' job, and they failed at it on the the Washington game.

Phil Steele had the Huskies covering, because he thought they were much improved w/ key returning starters especially J.Locker. He thinks LSU wants an impressive win this week and handles vandy. I like LSU here as well.

LSU is really good at not covering spreads. (1-7) in last 8 games ATS. This week will be the same, will win the game but not cover. Take Vanderbilt and the pts.
