#5 Posted: 11/29/2011 3:30:21 PM M Saint Louis Billikens (6-0) : The Billikens' hottest player has been senior forward Brian Conklin, the MVP of the 76 Classic and the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week. Conklin averaged 17.3 points in the three- game tournament and scored 25 in the title game, and averages 17 points and 4.7 rebounds. Others averaging double figures are Kwamain Mitchell (12.5) and reserve Cody Ellis (11.3) . St. Louis has not had a game closer than 11 points (Boston College) and won its three games in the 76 Classic by an average of 14.3 points. Loyola Marymount Lions (3-2) : Sophomore Anthony Ireland is averaging 15.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists. He went for a personal-best 26 against Harvard, the second-best performance in the West Coast Conference this season. Loyola will be without Ashley Hamilton(15.3 points), who injured his right foot against Harvard and will miss at least one more game. Jarred DuBois averages 11.8 points and 3.8 assists, and Nigerian Godwin Okonji leads the team with 6.0 rebounds per game. STL is a VERY smart team that is very efficient in both a 2pfg% of 44.3% & a 3pfg% of 53.4% on offense while |

#6 Posted: 11/29/2011 3:33:41 PM ...sporting a Top 10 in the nation defense that holds their opps to a 3pfg% of 28.9% & a 2pfg% of just 42%. They strive hard to take care of the ball on offense & not turn it over while on D, they pressure teams into turnovers with a well run man-to-man for the most part. STL has many sharpshooters that can knock down the 3-ball @ a high rate which will stretch their opp's D. They can get the ball into Conklin where works the 2- ptrs, draws fouls, gets to the FT line to hit 83% there. 6'8" forward Cody Ellis can work both inside AND outside with great efficiency. Shorty Kwamain Mitchell takes the most attempts behind the arc hitting 40%, but has a lower FG% inside when he's shooting thru the tall guys. One thing STL lacks focus on is Off Rebs. |

#7 Posted: 11/29/2011 3:34:40 PM Loyola has a decent D (not as good as STL's tho). They hold their opps to a decently low Eff FG%. They aren't as proactive as STL @ forcing the TOs, but they'll take what's given. On O, Loy takes a high number of 2-pt shots compared to their 3s. But even when shooting inside the arc, they are below average hitting a meager 45.9% there. They are however good at not turning the ball over. THIS WILL BE THE 1ST GAME LOYOLA WILL MISS THEIR 2ND-BEST SCORER, ASHLEY HAMILTON. His play inside will be missed vs a good D & good team overall. Loy has only played the last 2 games without him & they web vs crap teams. Matter of fact, they got taken to OT by Idaho St. OUCH! A 20 point win over Northern Arizona isn't any sort of accomplishment. |

#8 Posted: 11/29/2011 3:35:37 PM SCHEDULE COMPARISON & RECORD: STL had the tougher sched so far. Of the 3 top 100- ranked teams they played, they beat all of them(Washington, Villanova, & Oklahoma) by Double-Digits. Loyola on the other hand lost vs a good Harvard team& a top 100 team Mid Tennessee. Their "upset" of the imploding UCLA isn't that big of a deal because many teams have taken advantage of that than while they get things figured out. |

#9 Posted: 11/29/2011 3:37:06 PM Besides what everyone already knows of STL (going 5-1 against the spread, 6-0 SU,clinching a Top 25 spot, and winning everyone by at least 11 points), here is something ELSE you might wanna know: Technically STL should be perfect against the spread if it wasn't for Boston Colleges style of super-slow play to keep it as close as they could to maybe have a miraculous shot at winning in the end. BC may not have won SU, but dramatically slowing STL down vs their largest spread of the year so far, proved for BC to cover instead. |

#10 Posted: 11/29/2011 3:37:41 PM HERE'S THE GOOD STUFF: STL has been covering the 1st-half spreads by a lot more points compared to covering the game spread. STL averages 37 points in the 1st-half compared to holding opponents to an average of just 23.2 pts. They average being up by 13.8 pts in the first half. Starting with the 1st game of the season going to the last, they've been up by 17, 22, 25, 6, 4, & 9. They haven't faired as well in the 2nd-half only having a 2nd-half ave margin of 4.3 pts. My play is: St. Louis Bellikens -4.5 (-115) points 1st-half Best of Luck P.S. I'm also on the game line of -8.5, but think the 1st- half line might be a more "comfortable" win. |
