Not a world beater by any stretch but certainly a useful runner in the
allowance ranks. This 50% in the money 8 year old has run fairly well
at
Tampa and will need to perform reasonably well tomorrow to stay on our list.
I'm not one to pay too much attention to Swami angles but in
tomorrow's 7th race at Tampa, I have no choice but to use this guy with
the ML 7/5 favorite:
Slew's Answer.
Sometimes, you can mark up your form, investigate your connections,
spend hours pouring over your charts, but at the end of the day, dinner
is on you because your birthday or anniversary came in and paid not
only you but the tax man as well.
It will be my only play tomorrow. Wish me luck!
Whatever you play, enjoy the Wednesday racing, good luck and good 'capping!

Slew, I enjoy your posts, you are saying that the #7 (Playing a Joke, funny that you don't name him in your post) will need to perform reasonably weel to stay on your list, but you don't say why he would or mention that his ML odds are 10-1, only that you have no choice but to bet him with the morning line favorite. Am I not understanding your post correctly? Why will this horse run well today?

Hello howzuck! The horse is the number 8, Let It Rock. The reference to the #7 is the 7th race at Tampa on 12/08/2012. That was the race that got let It Rock on my key Horse List and the race which I reference here. I was having a little tongue-in-cheek moment with this post because of the Ml favorite's name:
SLEW'S ANSWER. How could I not bet my key horse, Let It Rock with the horse named Slew's Answer? Have to do it!
As it turns out, Let It Rock was scratched earlier today, but on Slew's main list is Admiral Perry (5/2 ML) so that becomes my wager in this race: XB with Slew's Answer & Admiral Perry.
Let It Rock might be ready to give up his current form cycle, based on past performance. He seems to have a good race/bad race/good race swap when he is running well. Two back his run was a strong one, last out he was outclassed a bit, today would have been a clue as to where he is headed. No really strong feelings about this one today, and did not have time (still haven't) to even look at the PP's.
Strictly a swami angle bet (that's the only time I beg for luck!)
I do apologize for the lack of clarity.
Regards - Slew

Ok, Slew, good luck, please state your bets, sometimes I like to tail, sometimes I don't, but I like to draw conclusions from what you say. Sometimes I don't always see where you're going. Triple Crown races are 5 weeks away, do you analyse them here as well?

howzuck: As a followup, if you are not familiar with my listings, let me just take a moment to detail the Key Horse part of it.
Let It Rock - TAM ( 7) TAM 12/08/12 # 7
Let It Rock is a horse I call a Key Horse because it was selected as a horse to watch for the near future. The name of the horse is followed by the race it is running in today. In this case, Tampa, Race (7).
After that is the racetrack and race from which the horse became a key horse. In this case, Tampa on 12/8/2012 - race #7.
The omission of the horses saddle cloth in today's race is an oversight that I have been too lazy to fix.
Hope that clears up any confusion about the way the horse is listed on Slew's daily race listing. Any questions, feel free.

Thanks, Slew, I am not the very serious fan that you obviously are (which I respect), it would seem to be achore to go back and mathc the horse number in a race from the distant past to today, but I get waht you're saying. Looking forward to future postings...

You don't have to be a serious fan to love this sport. That means, to love these magnificent creatures that give their all for our pleasure.
I'm sure you enjoy this stuff just as much as me or anyone else.
The lack of saddle cloth number comes from the fact that when I wrote "Slew"...my software that does this stuff, it was only for me. Only recently have I made public this data, and the saddle cloths were not important to me. I could look them up. Now, to go back and change the code is something I hate to screw with. Plus...I'm LAZY!
Kindest regards...-Slew

WCJR: Hello there. Normally I would be 'pumped' but I have to work on Sat and that sort of gets in the way. USA horses have WON the cup several times, beginning in 1996 with the great Cigar. And you mention Stevens, a great story about him. He was the rider on Soul of the Matter who gave Cigar a run for his money down the stretch during that first running of the event. He was interviewed prior to the Pacific Classic when Cigar finally got beat and was asked what he thought of the great champion.
He said that his most vivid memory was from the stretch run in Dubai when Soul of the Matter began to pass Cigar about a hundred yards from the finish line. As he started to go by, Stevens looked over and saw Cigar looking at him...and knew at that moment he was going to lose the race. He said a chill went through him...he had never seen a look like that before. He knew Cigar KNEW he was not going to lose!
As for Dulihan, I have never been a fan, and certainly not now. I have not handicapped the race nor will I have time to do so. But if you go back to my blog entry from the Haskel of last year, I was not a Dulihan believer then, nor am I now.
He just doesn't give me the feeling I get when I see a champion. Anyway, my attention for Sat will be on the Fla. Derby and Orb.
We have had 7 winners of the Dubai World Cup to date. Winner No. 8? If I were to be shot at dawn and had to make a bet I wold stay where I have been since I first saw him run:
Animal Kingdom.
Best of luck! - Slew

howzuck: Certainly you drawing conclusions from the info I or anyone else gives is the whole idea. But I rarely post my bets. Why?
First, I often don't decide what I'm going to do until minutes before a race. Not that I am a high roller and don't want to tilt the tote: how wonderful would that be? No, it is just a bad habit but I think came from not wanting to over think the situation.
Second, I really don't like being in the position of influencing other people when it comes to their money.
Lastly, I really believe everyone should make their own decisions.
Back in 1997 we were at Hollywood Park for the BC and the guy sitting next to me was someone I knew from Saratoga. We would sit in the same section each year. Before the Juvenile, he asked me who I liked. I had seen Favorite Trick win the Hopeful that year and he was AWESOME. So I told this guy so. He looked at me and asked me 'Are you SURE"? I said yeah, he will win this race.
After the race, which Favorite Trick won, I was going to go cash my $50 win ticket when he stopped me to say thank you. He then took from his pocket 10 $500 win tickets, gave me one and walked away.
Never again! So I rarely post bets.
Anyway, figure for yourself, and you will do just fine!
