Charismatic, Fusaichi Pegasus, Monarchos, War Emblem, Funny Cide, Smarty Jones, Barbaro, Street Sense, Giacomo and Big Brown
War Emblem gets out from with Big Brown chasing on the outside Will Big brown let War Emblem go or will Kent choke the life out of him to keep him under control ? If Big Brown is on the inside, he will not let Emblem pass. If he is on the outside, he will track.
Funny Cide, Fusaichi, Charismatic, Smarty and Barbaro are in the next group tracking. Where they stalk depend on their post position. Santos pulls Cide behind the leaders wanting the garden spot and also knowing he is a bit over matched. He wants first run at the pace leaders. Unfortunately, Smarty, Fusaichi, Barbaro and Charismatic crowd him.
Giacomo is next. He is a not much of a late runner. Just a plodder who won the Derby when all the horses up front ran out of gas.
There is a fight in the back for position as Monarchos and Street Sense scramble to be the confirmed trailer. One thing for sure. Street Sense has the rail.
I see the pace quickening as war wanted a comfortable lead. Big Brown tracks on the outside shoulder to keep him honest.
As we go down the back stretch, Funny Cide makes the first move and Smarty and Fusaichi follows.
As we get to the turn, both Barbaro and Charismatic make a move.
Monarchos and Street Sense move together past Giacomo. Sorry Giacomo, this is not going to be the silky sullivan race.
Around the turn approaching the stretch, War Emblem changes his lead nicely and only leave a small opening on the inside. Big Brown looming strong set for his stretch run. Funny Cide starts to fade and Charismatic fades as well. Smarty and Fusaichi make a move down the middle. Street Sense is trapped inside and waits for the opening to shoot through. Monarchos is taken very wide to avoid Funny Cide and Charismatic.
Down the stretch, Big brown makes 2 runs at War Emblem to pass him. Smarty and Barbaro both run well leaving Fusaichi behind. Street Sense finds room as starts to move. Monarchos is moving on the outside.
Big Brown wins the race with Barbaro a half length back. Smarty picks up third and War Emblem cannot hold off Street Sense for the superfecta position.
This turned into a race for the stalkers with just one confirmed (must lead) front runner. War Emblem might have gotten away, but Big Brown had enough pace to keep him in range.
Just my opinion that Smarty and Barbaro are better than Fusaichi and Charismatic. Especially in a race that shapes up as such.
No suicide pace for Monarchos to run at and too many string stalkers to open up the inside for Street Sense.
