I see great value in this play today, as everyone Is following the NCAA's and I like this game as a play alongside all the other action.
Evansville beat a good Wichita State team twice…. once at home on Jan. 13 th 71-76 then away 59-56 at on Feb. 27 th.
They lost to Creighton on Dec. 29 away 87-70 and then lost tom them at home on Feb. 16 th 71-68. We all know how good these two teams are. So this shows that they can compete and play hard against quality opponents…. especially at home.
The Missouri Valley conference is a good conference with quality opponents and I feel that today the Purple Aces will be mentally and physically ready to play and the big factor is that they knew they had no chance to make it to the big dance or winning their conference tournament so they were not overly disappointed in being invited to the CIT. They are happy just to be still playing.
E. Ky. lost a tough overtime gameto Tenn. State on March 2….. 85-81 away. They then played in the OVC tournament in Nashville and beat Se Missouri and lost an emotional hard fought game against Murray state. They went to North Carolina and won against Gardener Webb 69-62 in a hard fought game as a 2 point favorite on March 19th in the CIT tournament.
The Purple Aces have won their last 5 straight games against Illinois state , Wright State, Wichita state, Indiana state and in their first game in the CIT tourney they beat Tenn. State at home 84-72 and led at the half 38-29 and really never were threatened. They were a 9 point favorite.
I feel that the season has finally caught up to E. Ky, a team that has had a great season W-L 25-9 and ATS 14-11 and 9-7 in away games. The disappointment of not making the big dance after losing hard fought emotional games against Belmont twice and playing Murray state and Tenn state. I don't see them having the emotional and mental energy to fight through adversity against a fired up Evansville team today.
