IUPUI has played 11 games vs D1 competition thus far this season. Five of those opponents managed their season high in scoring vs a Jaguar defense that is allowing 1.10 points per possession (#334). These include giving up 91 to Michigan, 86 to Lamar, 79 to UMKC, 88 to South Dakota, and 87 to Butler. It is also worth noting that they allowed the second best scoring output of the season to North Texas (80), WKU (77), and most recently Indiana St (75). You don’t need to major in rocket science to figure out that they like to play fast, and that they have zero interest in playing defense.
So this style opponent should be the perfect remedy for a Valpo squad getting back home and looking to bounce back from blowing a 9 point lead on the road at Oakland on Monday night as they were held scoreless the last 5 minutes of the game. The Crusaders rank in the top 65 nationally with respect to 3P% (#62), 2P% (#51), and FT% (#50) and also get to the FT line a ton. All perfect ingredients to exploit the porous IUPUI defense.
Throw in the addition of LaVonte Dority (transfer from South Florida) who is now eligible and has average 17 points in his first two games, I would expect Valpo to approach the 80 point plateau with ease tonight.
