#1 Posted: 2/24/2012 1:13:31 PM WEDNESDAY NIGHT HIT MY PLAY OF THE YEAR ON MINNESOTA +6
ONE TONIGHT:
LAST TIME WEST VIRGINIA PLAYED THEY HUNG TOUGH AT NOTRE DAME FOR 20 MIN AND THEN WERE ABSOLUTELY SMASHED IN THE 2ND HALF. SHOTS WERENT FALLING EARLY IN THE 2ND FOR THE MOUNTIES AND THEY JUST FLAT OUT GAVE UP AFTER THE FIRST 10 OF THE 2ND HALF. NOW THEY FACE AN ON FIRE MARQUETTE TEAM THAT MOST PEOPLE DOUBT WEST VIRGINIA CAN BEAT AT HOME. HOWEVER WHAT PEOPLE DONT UNDERSTAND IS EVERY MATCHUP IS DIFFERENT. WEST VIRGINIA WHO IS ONE OF THE BEST REBOUNDING TEAMS IN THE BIG EAST WILL HAVE A CONSIDERABLE ADVANTAGE OVER MARQUETTE. MARQUETTE HAS DONE WELL COPING WITH TEAMS THAT HAVE SIZE HOWEVER THOSE TEAMS THEY HAVE PLAYED TURNED OVER THE BALL WAY TOO MUCH AND WERE WAY TOO UNDISCIPLINED. WHEN YOU LOSE THE TURNOVER BATTLE WITH MARQUETTE YOU WILL LOSE 9 OUT OF 10 TIMES CAUSE THIS TEAM MAKES YOU PAY. WVU ON THE OTHER HAND IS A TEAM THAT DOES A PRETTY GOOD JOB NOT TURNING OVER THE BALL AT 12.7 PER GAME. ALSO ON THE DEFENSIVE END WVU DOESNT SEND OPPONENTS TO THE FT LINE TOO OFTEN ONLY ALLOWING 17.2 FT AGAINST PER GAME. SOMETHING THAT WHEN PLAYING AGAINST MARQUETTE IS GOOD WHO MAKES A LARGE LIVING FROM THE CHARITY STRIP HITTING AN OUTSTANDING 73% AS A TEAM AVERAGING ABOUT 24 ATTEMPTS PER GAME.
I CANT STRESS THIS ENOUGH TONIGHT WVU WILL DOMINATE THE OFFENSIVE GLASS!! MARQUETTE ALLOWS WAY TOO MANY OFFENSIVE REBOUNDS AND AGAINST THE #1 TEAM ON THE OFFENSIVE GLASS THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM. WVU IS NOT A GREAT SHOOTING TEAM HOWEVER AGAINST MARQUETTE WHO IN THEIR LAST 5 HAVE PLAYED SOFT D ALLOWING OPPONENTS TO SHOOT WAY ABOVE AVERAGE IN ALL CATEGORIES WVU WILL HIT SOME SHOTS AND WHEN THEY DONT, EXPECT THE MOUNTIES TO HAVE MANY 2ND CHANCE OPPORTUNITIES.
IN CONCLUSION ITS NOW OR NEVER FOR THIS WVU TEAM, YOU BET YOUR behind BOB HUGGINS WILL HAVE HIS BOYS READY FOR THIS GAME AFTER THAT BLOWOUT. MARQUETTE AFTER WINNING 9 OUT OF THEIR LAST 10 WILL BE TOO OVERCONFIDENT IN THIS ONE AND I EXPECT THEM TO UNDERESTIMATE THIS HILLBILLY TEAM. EXPECT HUGE GAMES FROM JONES AND KILICLI AND WEST VAGINA WILL GET THE W IN FRONT OF THEIR FANS.
WEST VAGINA ML LARGE |

So by "way above average" you mean that Marquette actually held their last two opponents (UConn and Rutgers) UNDER their season shooting %.
Just because you use all capital letters doesn't make what you write accurate

#10 Posted: 2/24/2012 1:47:45 PM Great writeup. I've been leaning Marquette, but you might just have made this a no-play, or even small WVU play. I only saw the Final of the ND game, not the breakdown by halves. Marq hasn't won in Morgantown, but they've only played there 3 times, so it's not as significant as it sounds. Of course, I was only able to go back to the 1999-2000 season.. The only time they beat WVU as an away team I believe was in MSG last year in the Big East Tournament. This is such a tough game for me to call, but I'm a gambling degenerate so I'll probably put a small wager on it.
My favorite play of the night is over Harvard.

WHY DONT YOU CLICK ON THE MATCHUP OF THE GAME ON COVERS AND THEN CLICK ON LAST 5 IN DEPTH AND YOU WILL SEE WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. |

#15 Posted: 2/24/2012 2:33:23 PM i'm leaning towards marq. i looked into the rebounding advantage that you brought up, and I don't know if it is going to make a big enough difference to offset the other areas where Marq has the advantage.
Take Marq's game at Uconn for example: Uconn is statistically a better rebounding team than WVU, and Marq outrebounded them (holding them to 8 offensive boards; that is 1 every 5 minutes).
Additionally, Marq plays a fast paced game and actually got 9 offensive rebounds for themselves.
On the other end, Marq is a great shooting team, and they score in bunches. Maybe WVU gets some boards and offensive second chances like you say, but I'm tempted to side with Marq because I don't think WVU will be able to score with them throughout the course of the game.

#16 Posted: 2/24/2012 2:34:47 PM As for the current state of the team, when asked how Huggins will go about keeping the young squad together down the stretch, the veteran coach had this to say.
"I'm not going to give them any choice," he said. "We'll be fine. We had a bad game, we had a bad half. But we'll be fine." |

UCONN IS COACHLESS AND YOU CANNOT COMPARE THEM TO WVU. MARQUETTE PLAYS SOFT D AND THAT COMBINED WITH THE SECOND CHANCE POINTS WVU WILL GET WILL OFF SET MARQUETTE SCORING WHICH I BELIEVE THE MOUNTAINEERS WILL KEEP IN CHECK TONIGHT. |

#20 Posted: 2/24/2012 2:47:25 PM Very close game... I see a 4-5 pt lead for WVU at half. Then marquette dominates in 2nd half as always. |

#22 Posted: 2/24/2012 2:59:48 PM You admitted your record is floating around .500. Now you are on here thinking you are God bc you covered by a pt w Minnie (and FTs is all they scored down the stretch).
This game can go either way just as any other game - I guess that's why you hit 50/50.
Your best chance is a whole bunch of FTs - I will take the team who will not require sketchy officiating to come out on top - Marquette. |

KEEP HATING I DONT THINK I'M GOD BUDDY. COME BACK HERE AFTER THE GAME WHEN YOU HAVE YOUR TAIL BETWEEN YOUR LEGS. WHY DONT YOU OFFER SOME QUALITY INSIGHT AS TO WHY MARQUETTE WILL WIN INSTEAD OF HATING? I GAVE MY REASONS. I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH PEOPLE CHOOSING THE OTHER SIDE AND COMING INTO THIS THREAD OFFERING THEIR INSIGHT. |
