What up nropp !  I just signed up today but I've been following you as well as some others for the past month and you're knowledge about college is outstanding.  I was wondering how you felt about the valpo/det game as well as the south dakota st/oral roberts game.  I know a lot of people are on south dakota st mostly because they got blown away last meeting vs oral and now since they are a fav at home people are thinking revenge.  How do you feel ?

Nropp thanks for the picks. Any thoughts on this Cal irvine game. Uc Davis is pretty bad having one only one game all season. Plus their gonna b on the road. Irvine already beat these guys at their place by 15. Any thoughts will b greatly appreciated.

This is a pretty big Horizon League game. Detroit's really struggled with Valpo the last couple years for some reason. Doesn't really make any sense to me. They play a very similar style, up and down, they just haven't been able to keep up with the scoring. I think this game should see some points. Both teams run quite a bit, and neither team defends all that well. I think Valpo's most recent roadtrip and the low point totals were simply a matter of being on the road. Point totals in the series last few times out: 144, 166, 156, 146, 171, 144, 144...Nothing should change here. About the only concern I would have here is the defenses clamping down with the battle to be atop the League Standings. Might make a bit of a difference, not sure. But, both will want to get out and go.

As for the other game, it should be a battle. You have a super nice revenge angle with a really good offense in South Dakota State. The problem is, and part of the reason they lost by so much in the first meeting, is that they have little to no interior presence to stop the Oral Roberts big men. You'll have ORU scoring from the inside whenever they want, and SDST shooting from the perimeter quite a bit tonight. If you can trade a 3 for a 2, and hit at an efficient pace, then SDSTU might hold some value. Tough game for me. Eager to see how that one unfolds. ORU's got a two game lead, so nothing hurts them here with a loss. Tough roady for ORU, I think they drop at least one of these next two games.

Yup, Jim Les' lone victory on the year is a 6 point victory over Division III...UC Santa Cruz. I took this game over the total earlier in the year and failed miserably. At that point, UC Davis was playing at a pretty fast pace. They've since slowed down, but a majority of that is b/c of the team's they've gone against. Irvine's sped up a bit. Pace is going to be there, but these two offenses just flat out suck. Irvine's defense has been pretty impressive, so if you're wanting to lay the chalk, you're going to have to figure out if they stay impressive. Tough # to cover. I couldn't stomach the chalk in this match-up, but I think it's the only way to go here. Tough game...one that should be pretty ugly.

NROPP-  I love some of your picks BUT what are your thoughts on the IONA OVER.  I was interested in the under due to Iona travel day, kids had to go to class on Monday(no practice) NCAA rules, I am sure a light practice on Tuesday and a prep practice on Wednesday.  On top of that, they have a decent Manhattan team on deck and they know Canisius is the worst team in the conference. I don't see them getting up in this game and I see possible 80 points out of them.  I don't see Canisius scoring 70.  Your thoughts?  I respect your opinion so I would like to be talked out of it lol.

I understand the love for BYU. Haven't dropped 3 str8 home games in forever. Tough place to play, must-win, etc.... but they looked overmatched against St Mary's, especially their bigs. 

Zaga has some really good bigs, probably better than St Mary's....

Zaga won't be intimidated... if they can coral Carlino, their bigs are better than Hartsucks and Davies, it'll be a Zaga DD win....

I hate the P-12. 

I would point UCLA. Can't get Howland's defense off of my mind. Has failed many times before. I just don't think Washington is good this year. Neither is UCLA, though. Tough game. Hate going against Washington at Washington.

I like Colorado. Oregon State seemed shocked to win at Oregon the other day. Not sure how they rebound into altitude here. Expecting them to be pretty flat.

Pace in this one should be significantly faster than the first meeting. Iona's one of the fastest in the country, and in the first meeting, they were also coming off one of the other fastest teams (Long Island in an 86 possession game). I'm not sure what the angle is on the travel day. Iona's coming off of St. Peter's, which is about 30 miles from Iona. They do have Manhattan on deck in a nice revenge opportunity, but they can show up and give 75% here and still score on Canisius. Canisius is a team made up of a bunch of guards that need to score in transition. With the pace, that should help out a not all that great of offense. First meeting only hit 126, but was lined in the 160's. Getting 12+ points of value in this meeting...AND...Canisius' best source of offense didn't play in the first meeting (Belardo). He's their PG, and means quite a bit to this team. Iona's been murdering zone defenses. Canisius has to play zone b/c lack of depth. Don't see anything changing tonight, even with the lookahead.

Just not a fan of Gonzaga in this spot. Best road win came against Xavier at a time when they were struggling mightily. Theme here is physicality. Played St. Mary's the other night b/c of size and the physical stature they use on the guard slots. I don't see any of that from Zaga.

BYU's a team that needs to be fluid on the offensive side of things. No disruptions, no bumps here or there. I don't think Gonzaga brings that mentality with this year's lineup. Should be a good game, and I think BYU will benefit from it.

Those four UCLA losses are by 1, 3, 7, and 16 (to Cal - the best team in the conference).
