#1 Posted: 2/22/2011 7:53:40 PM 27-11-1 on Terp games this season (en fuego of late)
The Terps play at home Wednesday night against FSU with the line at -5.5 and no total out yet. The Terps played very well offensively Sunday when the Pack was in town and for the first time this season, had to outscore a team to win. The Terps are shooting FT's very well during the last few games, a complete tournaround to what they have done most of the season. They are still tops in the ACC in assists and have a very good FG% as a team also. Rebounding has been solid all year, primarily based on JWill's individual performance on the boards all year.
FSU comes to town without its best player Chris Singleton whose status is uncertain the rest of the year after surgery. I struggle to see how FSU has amassed the record they have but you know what....right now I am glad they have. A win on Wednesday would give the Terps a much needed RPI boost. I'll cut right to the chase:
I like the Terps more than I have liked them all year tomorrow night. Now my reasons:
First, I never believe in FSU. Their coach sucks, not Paul Hewitt suck, but suck nonetheless. Secondly, they rarely finish a season strong. Next, they rely WAY too much on defense to win games every year, this year being no excpetion. That's fine if you are playing a team that cannot score but unfortunately, this isn't the Terps. When FSU falls behind, they cannot score with the Terps. I could go into alot of position by position match-ups but I won't becuase you know what, it won't matter tomorrow night. The Noles have NO player averaging in double figures in scoring with Singleton out. That's right, they ca shine all they want but not having a couple of players scoring in double figures is a recipe for disaster. They don't shoot well as a team from the field. Again, how are they 19-7 again? Smoke and mirrors as usual with them.
I'll pound Maryland -5.5. The Terps win this game even if Singleton was playing. I'd also take the Terps at FSU. The Terps have more weapons and a freshman guard in Stogs that is really starting to feel comfortable. Add that to JWill being good for a double double, Dino playing well right now, FT shooting being much better and three experienced players (Tucker, Bowie and Mosley) all playing like behind but all very capable players at any given time and I think the Terps cover this spread fairly easily. This is not a terribly deep FSU team while the Terps are. I think the Noles are ripe to be beat by12+ tomorrow night as all the pieces are in place.
I sorta understand how this line "Happened". The computers come up with this exact line when you look at ratings and then add ina few points for strength of schedule. Unfortunately for whatever behind clown made the line, 95% of those games that went into the rating were WITH Singleton, an NBA shoe-in. He isn't going to play tomorrow night and thus, this line sucks. But thanks for that!
TERPS -5.5 LARGE (double play at least) |

#10 Posted: 2/22/2011 10:05:39 PM I agree with the play. FSU not a good bet with Singleton out of lineup. He just means so much to the offense. |

#13 Posted: 2/23/2011 2:30:42 PM I had the Terps Sunday, they played pretty bad against NC State (they were down for most of the game). IMO FSU is about even or maybe a little better than NC State on the road and yet they're getting 7 where NC State was getting 10. Something doesn't seem right. No play for me. Good luck with your Terps. |

Yes they do, i think they will need to sweep the remaining 4 games to get in the tournament..FSU, Miami, and Virginia they have a good chance to win..the game at Carolina will be a tough win to get, they need to get a quality win. |

You seem like someone who follows the ACC closely. When I capped this game myself (not taking into account injuries), I have Maryland by 7. So the question is, how much do you think Singleton is worth? I would say add at least 2-3 points to that number and say Maryland by 9-10. |
