anyone on ABCislands might who wants to spread out $1000 (or some prorated amount) on ncaa-b futures could consider the following combination:
TEAM (ODDS) risk-to win (profit/loss if they win) syracuse (8-1) 300-2400 (+1700) villanova (10-1) 235-2350 (+1585) kansas (3.1-1) 250-775 (+25) duke (15-1) 65-975 (+40) west virginia (20-1) 50-1000 (+50) kansas st (28-1) 35-980 (+15) georgetown (30-1) 35-1050 (+85) georgia tech (60-1) 17-1020 (+37) baylor (80-1) 13-1040 (+53)
only other teams with a shot: kentucky (3.1-1) no interest at this price for the 3rd or 4th best team texas (6.5-1) this team is a mess and i don't even consider them a contender. they are overrated IMO and very poorly coached. michigan st (15-1) i don't see it, if they beat me i lose purdue (20-1) see michigan st
everyone loves the idea of the cinderella in the tournament but when all is said and done, chalk wins. every year the final 4 is filled with pretty much nothing but one and two seeds and this year will be no different. in my opinion the top 3 teams in college are syracuse, kansas, and villanova. i think the champion will come out of that group. i am claiming texas and kentucky to be much further behind these teams than the experts would say. in the above bets syracuse and nova are obviously way underpriced (just a gift in my opinion) so they are who we'll go for. kansas, duke, west virginia, kansas st, georgetown, georgia tech, and baylor just serve as hedges. kansas is awesome and very well could win it so i'm glad we don't have to worry about them. i don't really expect duke, west virginia, georgetown, or kansas st to win but they have some nba talent so i felt safer throwing them in the mix. georgia tech and baylor are longshots with nba talent. i like both these teams and if it only costs me 80-1 and 60-1 to get rid of them, of course i will. basically what i've created is a bet where we have the syracuse (my #1) and nova (my #3) against kentucky (my #4), texas, and mich st. we should be about -1700 in a bet like this. in the combination i've thrown together, we are essentially +1700.
go back to past tournaments. i don't think any team i haven't mentioned can win this tournament.
this, of course, is a safe alternative to just loading up on cuse at 8-1 and nova at 10-1.
