Yeah, but this is the Copa del Rey, and Real Madrid are the defending champions. I don't think that they will want to go down again with Barcelona at home after what happened in December. Real Madrid knows what they need to improve on and what they need to in order to get a positive result out of this. They have some positives and some negatives coming into this match.
Positives:
- The fact that they are the current defending champions and are in 1st place in La Liga could prove to be extra motivation for them to go out there and outright win this game.
- Jose Mourinho has won everything at every club he has been too his 2nd year, and by the looks of it, it seems like it might actually happen this year.
- The "Callejon" Factor: With Cristiano Ronaldo struggling to "put the team on his back" whenever they play Barcelona, its up to the other clutch players to show up and make a mark. When thinking of another player who can mark the difference, Jose Callejon can easily live up to this. His goal to game ratio is just extraordinary, and if he starts for the injured Di Maria, I have no doubt that he could make the difference for Real Madrid, which could just be what C. Ronaldo needs in order for everyone not to pay that much attention to him and make his own personal impact on the match.
Negatives:
- Real Madrid have to psychologically surpass the limitations that they have whenever they face Barcelona. They have the quality to do so, it just comes down to the mentality that they should have for the full 90 mins, not just the first 45. If they can believe that they can press Barcelona back for the full 90 even if they start with their touches, they can force and error and capitalize on it like they did last game.
-The Red Card Game: Being that all Classicos are intense and that many times Barcelona will try to provoke a booking to their opponents with their acting and complaining as a unit, Real Madrid cannot fall into their little games. They need to have the class to let Barca complain and complain and not get involved at whatever cost. Although thus might be the hardest thing to do, if this can be done it will prove to be a major advantage for Madrid as Barca will fail to reduce Madrid to 10 men as it has always been done.
- Injuries and Suspensions: with Ricardo Carvalho, Arbeloa, Kherida and possibly Pepe out for this game, Real Madrid will have to be on their toes when defending and not make any silly mistakes such as timing their tackles and man marking (Coentrao, I'm talking to you...). If Sergio Ramos can command his defenders at the back correctly and successfully, it will be hard for players like Alexis Sanchez or Fabregas to work their talent towards Casillas' goal.
If this can be done, and Real Madrid pressure and pressure Barcelona from min 1 to 90, then they should come out with the result that they are looking for...A WIN.
BOL to all, and hopefully this can prove to be a great match...with Real Madrid getting the win of course. Anything less than that can prove to be costly later on at the second leg.
