They are wrong. The teen was practicing his freedom of speech. You simply cannot take that away from somebody, but they did.
The school district's dress code prohibits any profanity, violence, discriminatory messages, but the report noted that gun images are not on the list.
I'm not sure what happened here, but I'm gonna take a good guess.
Boy wears shirt to school... teacher sees it and gets worried in light of all the gun control talk and shootings... teacher asks student to remove shirt... student refuses... teacher calls law enforcement... cops arrive and arrest him.
So what's next? What if the student wore a shirt with a picture of a large hunting knife and a logo of a company that makes these? Knives aren't against the law. Nor are guns. It's black and white here, and I really can't understand where these people are coming from. They are completely in the wrong.

I remember hearing about high school students being told to change their American Flag shirts (or turn their shirts inside out) on Cinqo de Mayo because it might offend Hispanic students.
Same liberal philosophy in this case.

First, I am Not arguing with you or saying you are wrong... Attempting a discussion...
This is one of those really, really sticky topics that I do not see as a black and white issue. The "guidelines" are totally based on subjective opinion. I do not believe a student should be allowed to wear a shirt with any message they wish.
If students can wear any message on a shirt, how about: Hitler was RIGHT!!! Kill a White Person and make the World a better place...
Problem is common sense and consideration for others is two of the most uncommon traits humans posses. Add in peoples desperation to impose their asinine values on others, there is no way this type of censorship will ever work.
I hate censorship... I personally did not find the NRA shirt offensive in any way.
Difficulty is specifying specifically what is prohibited. I can easily understand why schools have very specific uniforms. I do not agree with school uniforms. I would have hated having to wear a uniform when I was in school.
What is the solution?

This little punk is worried about rights that are not even granted to him at his age?!?! Gimme a break. Maybe he outta act his age and worry about getting his first piece of tail ... by the looks of his picture ... he needs a haircut before he needs a NRA T-shirt.

In West Virginia you're given a gun and a tin of Skoal when you exit the womb.

Maybe its less about the "guns" and more about the "rights".

Then send him to a private school if they don't like it. His parents need to worried about important issues. Now let's waste the time in the courts over something so stupid. Give me a break. Some little punk kid
Histrionic personality disorder. It's sad

Man, I feel old... You are right. For Texas (as far as I can tell) it is 18 to own a gun.
I truly do think it is sad we have to have a minimum age to own a gun. There was a time when guns were to feed your family and protect the ones you love.

atlheatholder, scratch my wording on that. Let me replace that one line with, "The little redneck is worred about gun ownership rights that don't apply to him" ... as in ... he doesn't have the legal right, to own a gun in his state at age 14.

that doesn't mean he can't legally go recreational shooting or hunting with his father or another of legal age. And why can't he support the NRA at age 14? In 4 years he'll be of "legal" age to die for his country. Keep eating your Tofu and watching the Kardashians and hugging your boyfriend. It's people like you that are bringing this once great Nation to it knees.

Exactly. Never should have been an issue to start with.

Obviously it had nothing to do with the NRA, the issue was with the image of a rifle. If the shirt had simply said "National Rifle Association" or NRA then it would have been fine. Likewise, the image of a rifle without the NRA would have been a problem too. In other words, this has nothing to do with supporting the NRA. Those trying to imply that it does are using this kid for their agenda.

About the same here Randy, but shortly later on down the road of life i met Mary, Jane and Bud and soon box getting high and gambling became more important and fun than killing animals and wasting ammo shooting at inanimate objects. Each to their own, but i still dont understand why people who are not hungry kill animals.

The teenage son of a Harris County Precinct 1 deputy shot a home
intruder Tuesday afternoon in the 2600 block of Royal Place in northwest
Harris County, deputies said.
The 15-year-old boy and his 12-year-old sister had been home alone in
the Mount Royal Village subdivision when around 2:30 p.m. a pair of
burglars tried the front and back doors, then broke a back window.
The teenager grabbed his father's assault rifle and knew what to do with it.
"A teenager who was home alone on Tuesday afternoon fired a gun at a
prowler who was also armed, law officers said. It happened at a Mirandy
Road residence, says a report by Putnam Sheriff’s Deputy Bo Sherrell.
The 18-year-old boy was home alone when he noticed 'a male standing by
the shed outside the house,' the report says. 'He approached the male
with a shotgun, and when he got the male’s attention, he was about 20
yards away from him. He said the male then started to raise a pistol
toward him, so he shot at him with a 410 bird shot.' The intruder then
took off running, heading south."

Calm yourself. Your suppositions about me are incorrect. And I admit, maybe mine of him ... regarding his redneck status may be incorrect. For the record, I have no problem with the second amendment, kids shooting guns with their parents, the NRA, your boyfriend or tofu. I don't watch the Kardashians so I have no opinion of them or the show. I also do not wield magical powers to bring any nation to its knees.

Amen Brother... You should not kill what you do not intend to eat...
"Sport" hunting is not something I have ever understood... The thrill of shooting and animal to watch it die just to have bragging rights of "I killed an XYZ" is beyond my understanding.
Personally, I have never got into target shooting... I equate it to archer, throwing darts, playing pool... Just something some people enjoy doing and more power to them if they enjoy it.

I am all for guns and am a gun owner, but when people purposely do things that are questionable to express themselves knowing that it is going to cause controversy, I don't care if they are unhappy about the consequences that their actions bring about.
With all of the recent school shootings, wearing a shirt to school showing your support of guns is kind of a douchebag move.
Slovak Excellent post. Too bad so few here will get it...
