Yes, you are on to something if you think the math adds up to you. If you are making large bets offshore, and then laying off locally in Vegas you will lose 5% overall so I am not sure this idea will really work.
I don't see that this will add up longterm for free airmiles as most credit card companies only give you 2% for air miles on your purchases.

You are going to the bonus points regardless of what you do anyways. There would be no problem in charging up $1500 just for groceries and gas for a month or two or for even one visit to the dentist.
The real stategy would be to accumulate hundreds of thousands of points to get free tickets to Europe and Asia numerous times a year.
Really do not see this plan working to do something like that..The credit card companies are way, way, smarter than we think
