I find it comical how quickly a player can be forgotten

Question

Philip Rivers is one of the best QB&#39;s in the league but he&#39;s struggling a bit this year.  A good friend of mine lives near SD and he alluded to the fact (after the loss to Denver in which Rivers threw like 19 int&#39;s) trade rumors are floating around.  He also expressed his own displeasure with Rivers and I think it&#39;s ridiculous.  Rivers has spent the last 8-1/2 years establishing himself as a top notch QB putting upI solid numbers and consistent performances as often as some of the best in the league (Roethlisberger, Brady, Brees, Rodgers, etc.).  I&#39;m watching ESPN and they mention Big Ben and Eli being in the QB class of &#39;04.  Rivers&#39; name was never mentioned.  I just think it&#39;s hilarious how people quickly forget.  When Rivers comes back (and it won&#39;t be long) he&#39;ll be loved again and praised.  If I were him I&#39;d have half a mind to tell everyone to stick it where the sun doesn&#39;t shine.

Wow... I beg to differ.

In the one SB run that Peyton had, he threw 7 int's and 3 TD's in the postseason. Point: he has one ring and he's lucky to have that. Marino never got a ring. It's a team sport and it's not his fault he doesn't have a ring. Good God he's had Schottenheimer and Turner as his coaches.

If you look at his career numbers I really think he deserves more respect. Be has 175 TD's and 88 int's in his career. His career QB rating is 94.8 (sixth all time). To say he's horrible is really completely absurd with all due respect.

2010: 30 TD to 13 INT
2009: 28 TD to 9 INT
2008: 34 TD to 11 INT
2006: 22 TD to 9 INT

His 2011 season wasn't a complete failure either. He threw for over 4,600 yds and his completion percentage was 62.9. Sure he threw a few too many INT's but you need to look at the whole picture. His QB rating was 88.7 and that is hardly bad by any standard. You can't just look at a TD/INT ratio and draw conclusions. That's like me citing Atlanta's 19th ranked defense and then saying the team sucks.

Besides that, the ratio isn't all that horrible. It's not impressive by any means but it's not horrible.

Needless to say, I disagree and I really think you guys need to reconsider.

he&#x27;s like a ton of guys - the talent&#x27;s there but the results aren&#x27;t. He&#x27;s pretty much getting what any QB in his situation deserves. Don&#x27;t turn the ball over 5x in a quarter and there won&#x27;t be this kinda of discussion. Jay Cutler went through it and is still goin&#x27; through it. Sanchez goes through it. Eli once went through this phase 5, 6 years ago. etc etc ....Ultimately, you&#x27;re play will speak for itself and these critics become old news.

what you all neglect is that he is getting progressively worse, and it appears he has something wrong with his throwing motion--or has arm trouble--and either way his career is downward.

Philip Rivers continues to get lambasted by fans that DON'T know anything but what they read in the papers. And some covers people here follow those sheep.

Last year he had 582 attempts and completed 366 passes for a completion rate of 62.9 (63%) for a total of 4,624 yards and an average of 7.95 (8 yards a pass) and 27 touchdowns.

This year through last week he has 263 attempts, 175 completions and a completion rate of 66.5 (67%) and only 1,866 yards on an average of 7.10 yards a pass.

Look who his receivers were last year and then look at who is there now, there is a BIG drop off at the position. He can't excel when he has no talent around him.

Manning refused to be &quot;stuck&quot; in San Diego on draft day and I thought he was being a bitch ( and maybe he was), but he has two rings, so he was right and gets to be elite.  Also, drew Brees got ran out of there and won a super bowl. Rivers is good and with the right situation he might have a few rings.  But, he doesn&#39;t.  But, he has more money than anybody that posts on this site. Really he is an unlucky rich guy.  But I would rather be rich than lucky.

Ryan Tallehan in Miami has shit around him too yet that kid's a fuckin beast. Their whole team isn't all that either yet they manage to scare other teams. Rivers simply has to win the important games , no one cares what his stats are in isolated situations. The whole team has to do their part.

Dude... Tannehill has 5 TD&#39;s, 6 INT&#39;s, a 58.9 completion percentage, and a 78.2 passer rating.  Let&#39;s not get carried away.  He hasn&#39;t accomplished anything yet.  He has promise but he doesn&#39;t belong in this discussion.

Rivers doesn&#x27;t win the games when I have money on the Chargers.  Therefore, he sucks.  Stats are meaningless. Money counts.

I can&#x27;t say whether this is fact or not about Rivers, but Tom "the most over rated QB in the history of the game" Brady puts up 90% of his numbers in garbage time, against what has been the worst division in football for years, yet people still think he&#x27;s so great.

I was about to post this, but Puck beat me to it. Peyton made Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon look like Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne, but they were late round draft picks that shouldn&#x27;t have been anything more than practice squad/injury replacements. Yet he goes out there and makes them look so good. I bet if you asked 100 WR&#x27;s in the NFL who they wish was throwing them the ball, and 100 would say Peyton.
