To determine the value of an underdog I took ten days of moneyline for all underdogs and averaged it. Used these lines... I came up with $127 for every $100 wagered.
MLB record for dogs right now is 342-411 or 45.42%. Given a dog is worth 127 and there are 342 wins that comes out to $43,434.00 return for the season betting dogs. 411 loses at 100 a lose is $41,100.00 lose. Profit for the season should be $2334.00 if someone had the balls and money to ride the dogs without question.
The question would be what is the ending record for the season will be? And what has been the ending record for the previous seasons?
Is there a point during the season where the handicappers get good enough that favorites win too much and underdogs win too few for the dogs to continue to be the best bet in the long run?
The other sport I am interested in the underdogs for is hockey. I do not know what the average value for a hockey underdog is.
What would be interesting is to map out the profit margin for dogs during previous baseball and hockey seasons. If someone were betting all the dogs everyday. Seems like... At the beginning of the season when everyone is trying to get a read on the players and managers that dogs are a good bet and at some point the worm turns and chasing dogs becomes a losing proposition in the long haul.
The trick is to remember that the people setting the line are NOT basing the line totally on who will win, BUT who will the public bet on.

Its funny you think its college football because you only hit 42% last year and were ranked 10,000 something. If college football is the easiest sports shouldnt you be able to hit over 40%? Anyway baseball is the easiest sport.
