Each individual act of "heroism" is part of an aggregate effort that will effectively destroy life as we know it in the US.
No soldier since WW2 has died to keep me safe or to secure liberty.
You say heros. I say pawns in a rich mans game that cares nothing about soldiers or the stability and integrity of the United States.
And for all of you getting bent out of shape about this issue, take a good look at yourself in the mirror. As mentioned by others, if you really thought they were heros, then you'd take care of them when they get home. What a disconnect between the media and reality. In all sports and television we are lambasted with "hero" this and "support our troops" that. You'd think the public and government that. Then you see the reality and realize it is just -faux-patriotic drivel. Nationalism is a sickness and it will be listed on the death certificate of the US.
I do look in the mirror and I do try to take care of the ones I know of however I can and hire and or donate to thier causes.
So because you view them as pawns that means they are not heros for making the ultimate sacrafice ? You are damn right they are heros.
You can call whoever you want a hero. But in my mind anyone who puts thierself in the line of fire for thier country is a hero in my book.
Overall, a good post and well stated, scal. Personally, as a vet I know too many good men and women struggling and fighting with the VA over health coverages. Many of which if not given the proper care, will end up homeless. Sad reality. It's slowly beginning to look like Vietnam all over again.

If you think calling somone a hero, dieing for thier country being cheap then I would like to know what you think a hero is ? I can't speak for anyone else. But I consider them and a great deal of others consider them heros.
They are real heros and theer isn't anything cheap about it.
He was. But I look at the men and women in there. We have a complete volenteer military. I am talking about our men and women serving. Not the political and war machine.
But Tillman is the ultimate example. He game up millions of dollars to fight for his country.
Also of course our men and women are used a pawns. That is what a war is. But don't reduce thier roles as such.
