Babies on Jets

Question

Is it just me, or does it irritate everyone else also?  Look, I have two boys, grown up and gone now, but I would never dream--and never did take my two boys on a trip on a plane when they were babies.  I define that as any child under 4.  It is uncomfortable for not only the baby, but for EVERYONE else on the plane.  As a frequent traveler, I loathe the parents who do this.  Take them in a car, you suffer through it.  That&#x27;s what we did.   I have discussed this with MANY other travelers, both leisure and business, and rarely, and I mean rarely, does anyone disagree.  To me, it is just common sense.  Except, common sense is so common any more.  Most people are all about themselves, and don&#x27;t care if the inconvenience anyone else.  Just my two cents.

Ever think that some parents might be visiting relatives who might want to see their newborn addition or that some parents are taking a much-needed family vacation and don't have a choice to leave their kids with anyone but themselves?

If you live in New York, you probably wouldn't want to drive to Texas, Florida, or California with children that young (especially given gas prices today compared to what can be accomplished in a few hours at the airport).

No, forget the vacation because passengers on planes might get irritated while they watch in-flight movies or read the barf bag for a couple hours.

The anal retentiveness on this site is extraordinary.

I think it&#x27;s a pain too but it is what it is, people are always going to bring their kids so you just gotta deal with it. Think there are solutions though. When we were young my mom would always give us some cough syrup, 30 years ago so there was alcohol in it, so we&#x27;d conk out on the flight and not cry; wish people would still do that but I&#x27;m sure "drugging" kids is frowned upon nowadays though I turned out fine. My solution is some good noise cancelling headphones. Work like a charm.

There are restaurants now who don&#x27;t allow children under 6.  Would be nice if they had flights like this.  40&#x2B; years ago, most parents made their children behave.  From my experience, and having a couple of good friends who teach, that isn&#x27;t the case so much any more.  As I stated from my experience, most travelers agree.  This is my opinion.  I don&#x27;t want to deal with with babies.  Flying is too stressful having to listen to that.  Relatives could ALWAYS visit those with babies for the first few years....Private jet...

Don&#x27;t think I haven&#x27;t tried.  The shrill cry of a small one permeates even headphones.  Nice try at your little dig, though.  Restaurants are beginning to do it (ban babies) why not airline flights.

You really think a 2yo is going to remember anything about Disney world? Think they&#x27;ll have a clue where they are? I understand people having to fly places with infants but yeah, it can be annoying. You just hope they have a good trip, &amp; if they don&#x27;t that they&#x27;re not seated right behind you.

My son was born in September 2000. I live in Las Vegas, the rest of my family lives in Youngstown, Ohio. We had traveled back and forth probably 2 or 3 times in his first year.

He was great the first 2 and a half times. That last trip it was just him and I. On the flight home, something did not agree with him, and he screamed bloody murder for the entire flight.

I felt like the biggest asshole. I tried everything. The stewardesses were extremely helpful. I was gonna drown myself in the toilet. I was beat red with everyone staring at me. I think I was 22 at the time. Longest four hours of my life. Brutal.

It wasn&#x27;t meant to be a dig. However, I take me and my family on a trip to Turks every year. I&#x27;m not gonna stop just a kid might cry. Ya know there are fat people that take up too much room, or a person that might smell like shit, or a person that is sick, etc...Listen there are all types on a flight. You were once a baby and I&#x27;m sure you might have one as well. Flying is a privilege everyone has. Like I said if you get good quality headphones, you won&#x27;t hear anything.

The only reason you felt like an asshole was solely because you knew the flight contained people like bandit who provide the Clint Eastwood stare, the over-the-shoulder turnaround with a face of displeasure, or the noticeably audible release of air that sounds like a poor attempt at a whistle as your child does what all children do; cries when they are hungry, wet, alone, or disturbed. But if his family lived in Ohio and he lived in Las Vegas, he very well might be making the exact same post as you. That&#x27;s where his understanding of other people and their situation is severely limited.

Maybe some of you forgot this is just a forum where one can express him or herself, share a moment, laugh, or ask for opinions.  This is just my opinion.  Some others here agreed with me, some did not.  But why would anyone get so riled up about it?  I still have to travel and tolerate it.  I get that.  Yes, stinky and over weight people are no fun to travel with either when you have to sit near or next to.  But airlines are working on obese people, often making then buy two seats.  I haven&#x27;t sat next to, or near too many stinky ones, thank goodness.  But please, don&#x27;t show your immaturity and complete lack of any intelligence by threatening someone with physical violence.  You don&#x27;t look tough threatening violence to someone over the internet you will never know or meet.  Makes you look like a complete tool, which you probably are.   Wow.  What a great example you will be for your kid(s).  Knocking someones teeth in because you disagree with them.  Chill.

You see, that is just the attitude that parents have, and that is why restaurants and homeowner, condiminimum, and other associations that don&#x27;t allow children are growing in populairty.  Here, these are my kids, deal with them, put up with them, too bad for you.  Kids will be kids.  Well, no.  Too bad for you maybe for having them, BUT, I shouldn&#x27;t have to deal with YOUR kids.  Sorry if that offends anyone, but that is way more and more people are beginning to feel.
