okay rose had his first 18 seasons...full every year about 155 each year.  thats just about every day for 18 years?  im about 16 yeras into my career as a non-baseball player and ive called in and taking some much needed personal time in that time period.  do i consider myself dedicated to my career?  yes i do... do i make millions..no i don't!  so if i made $$$ to play baseball would i play everyday..yes i would

sorry... jeter currently sits at 16 full seasons and almost 3100 hits.  he is only 2 yrs older than me so if he can make it till i retire as a teamster...he will hold the record.

that being said...pete after 16 full seasons at full throttle was at 3164. jeter now at 3088...and so far still alive in round 1 of '11

pete olnly played 3 or 4 full seasons after this 16 year mark, i thinking because of his coaching career and teams trading him... i was just a kid watching him so i can't be precise, but he still hit.

I hear you bout Zep. Shoe-horn is just an way of saying that something is forced.  i.e. you have to use a shoe horn to get a tight pair of shoes to fit -- or you shoe-horn (force) a random expression into a conversation just because you wanted to use the expression.

If he plays until he's 45 like Pete did...anything is possible. But I don't think Jeter has 8 more seasons in him.

Plus...Rose went on to another team. Jeter won't do that. He's one of the few that will stick with one team throughout.

But if he's still batting around .300 and wants to play...I'm sure the Yanks will keep him on. He'll probably learn that, after his contract is up, he'll have to take a year by year contract extension.
