Y2K never materialized and September 11th used to be just another date on the calendar, but a sh*tload of other things happened (terrorism, war, economy, natural disaster, tech). So what will the new decade bring? Here are a few of my predictions:
There will be blood: Things are going to continue to escalate in Iraq and spill over into the rest of the Middle East (you just know we're seriously starting to piss someone off), or somebody (this means you Russia and China) is going to make a major push for power and spread the US thin. Either way, just remember: these were the good ol' days.
A major, major (and I do mean major) disaster is going to hit: We had the tsunami, Katrina, Swine Flu (okay, that didn't really pan out) and apparently there's a volcano set to blow in the Phillipines. Will it be 14 days and 14 nights of rain or that meteor that's supposedly hurtling towards the Earth? It seems almost inevitable that something big is going to go down (my guess is a major plague or drought in Africa).
A major metro area will become a "ghost town": My money is on Detroit (with New Orleans a close 2nd), but reading about all the towns in California that are going bust, I think there are more than just a few viable candidates.
The rise of the machines is going to come back and bite us in the ass at some point: Those of you who've seen "Live Free Or Die Hard" or experienced the blackout in 2003 know what I'm talking about. All it takes is one glitch in the system or some nerd at his laptop to bring things crashing down. I'm not talking about a Skynet type apocalypse, but I'd suggest hiding money in your mattress just in case.
The end of traditional media: Newspapers are shutting down, E-paper is on the rise, CD sales are going down the tubes, and the internet is where it's at. We've already said goodbye to photographic film and no one even mails letters anymore, so why not books and magazines?
The Yankees will be a last place team by the end of the decade: This isn't a young team anymore and there's only so many free agents you can sign. Will Austin Jackson and Jesus Montero make this a championship team by the end of the decade? My guess is 'no'.
The death of "Hip-Hop": Okay, this is more of a wish than a prediction but, hey, we managed to kill off disco, so why not hip-hop (where's Dr. Johnny Fever when you need him?)
So how about you? Is this the decade we finally see flying cars, cyborgs, life on other planets, LeBron James called for travelling? Let's see what ya got.

The Machines will take over by 2017. The Majority of mankind will be enslaved by the machines and put to work in the sulfur mines. The rest of humanity that are not slaves will be processed in "conversion plants" to turn their enzymes and blood plasma into a new age sustainable "fuel" that will power the machines ascent to the top of the food chain.
Most likely all of your children will be robot slaves or robot fuel. Smarter people like myself will learn to adapt to the machines and learn how to speak their language in order to escape slavery and persecution. Those of you who are not able-bodied and capable of being sulfur mine slaves will be rounded up into specially designated "kill zones" and terminated swiftly. Eventually a century or two down the line humanity will rise up and revolt against the tyranny of the machines, however we will all be long gone by then.
Also DeSean Jackson will set the NFL record with a 1000 yard touchdown in the pioneer version of the NFL's "Space Bowl". You watch.

Um Austin Jackson got traded a while ago. He was the key piece in that Curtis Granderson trade.
- I agree with you on the Middle East situation, people are growing tired of us and soon their will be a massive uprising against us. I would not be shocked if China tries to pull some BS on us while we are at war in the Middle East.
- At least 5 major terrorist attacks.
- I also agree a major natural disaster will happen. I believe they are happening more frequently than ever I am recall correctly. My guess is that the poles shifting due to some rare planetary alignment will cause world wide earthquakes and tsunamis.
- The Pope gets assassinated, too many weirdos out there and for some reason they don't see to beef up the security around him. The same woman that attacked him on Christmas Eve was caught last year trying to do the same damn thing.
Basically I think the world will continue down its path of self destruction thanks is large part to religion and politics.

Major Natural disaster will hit. Asteroid or a mega tsunami
The US dollar will colapse. Gotta stop the spending. Are they trying to colapse the dollar?
A major terrorist attack that will make 9/11 look like a picnic which will lead to us all getting microchips in our hands.
THe internet will be shut down. There will be a revolt in the country because the gov will fuck things up even more. Too much information that certain people will not want floating around on the net.
The war on terror will move into Yemen. THe media already setting that up.
Something bad will happen 2012.
Small market sports teams will fold. Teams like the Royals will not survive. Especialy with the economic downturn that will get worse.
The Dow will fall below 5000.
The Cubs will win a World Series
Man those are negative predictions. besides the cubs

Forgot to add: with the failings of the market economy being exposed, I predict communism will make a big time push by the end of the decade.
And VaughnK... How could you? I can't believe you would bail on the rest of us and pimp yourself out to the machines like that, laying at their feet like Princess Leia to Jabba The Hut. For shame VaughnK. For shame...

Eventually the MMA world will unify and the UFC will become the surpreme promotion and the primary league for the sport just like NBA, NFL & MLB.
And they've been saying that about boxing for how long now? Oh, and one more prediction (perhaps my most shocking yet): there will be an NFL team in Los Angeles!

I've never heard of machines that run on sulpher, so that's out......
NOTHING will happen in 2012-those fucking Myans were so smart, how'd they die off?
We will catch somebody trying to bring a nuke into this country, and give it back to them
BCS will be eliminated (hopefully, shot at dawn). Coach Mike Leach wins the 1st College Bowl Game for UTEP
Al Davis finally dies. Raiders win Super Bowl one year later. Raider qb Alex Smith declares "I'm so glad to bring this trophy to the Bay Area!"
Jesus Christ Himself appears in 2013-apologizes for being late, yells at BarryDingle, condemns Detroit Lions to Hell, tells rest of World "You fuckers are on your own"
The Hawk gets his own Expert job at covers. Fired after picking 49ers, Giants, and Warriors to win World Championships, he is reassigned as Covers 'Commissioner of Comedy'-job entails finding funny pictures for Rizzo, cleaning up cigar ashes Lou leaves on carpet..............

Yeah but the beauty of it is that the MMA world gets to learn from boxing's mistakes. Boxing killed itself by adding way too many weight divisions and promotions. The UFC only has 5 divisions and does a good job of keeping smaller promotions from rising up and providing a serious threat. Most of those other promotions tend to shoot themselves in the foot but Dana White does a great job preserving the UFC's supremacy by taking the UFC main stream with the TV network deals etc.

MMA already owned boxing. I can already openly talk about MMA wherever I go and people will join the discussion. It has NEVER been like that with boxing.

"The rise of the machines is going to come back and bite us in the ass at some point" - I caught a tv show once about how easy it would be for a hacker to basically shut down half of the country's electrical grid Sounds like it is bound to happen at some point.
I predict that a tornado will hit the heart of St. Louis
I see almost zero chance that the Yankees will be a last place team. Maybe in their division if we are very lucky.
Pirates will win the world series in 2010

A major metro area will become a "ghost town": My money is on Detroit
(with New Orleans a close 2nd), but reading about all the towns in
California that are going bust, I think there are more than just a few
viable candidates.
WRONG. Las vegas, that shit is in the middle of the desert, being invaded by gangs, and where and how will they get water there going into the future? The town was built when the rest of the country was morally above having casinos and all that fun that goes along with them tucked away in the desert. Not anymore buddy. Here in Pennsylvania we're about to get fucking live table games. i mean we already have those crappy digitized ones with the virtua dealer. i can drive to Chester whcih is hood as hell or hollywood park and gamble my life away. delaware park is not far and they are getting their toes wet with nfl betting with the shitty parlay tickets. 8 years ago i don't think many would of believed that we would have casinos here, but now the governer is demanding we legalize blackjack tables
bring on legalized hookers and fucking pot and let's get it on, 2010-2019 should be our last stand, let's enjoy it.
regardless of what happens, buying a house will be seen as a shitty investment as prices stay stagnant or continue to fall for the next 10 years. if you want to sell, sell now. if you want to buy make sure you're getting a good deal, and if you already own refinance that bitch tomm because we might be seeing 50% higher cost to borrrow on morts by next xmas
