W Ken has a very good rushing offense, one that ranks 41st in the nation (even after facing the nations #1 run defense Alabama). Their rushing attack is lead by the #6 Rusher & #1 All-Purpose Runner Antonio Andrews. C Mich ranks 96th in the nation at stopping the run, so I don't think they'll be able to stop W Ken's rushing attack. W Ken has a good balanced defense (ranking 31st in pass defense, 32nd in run defense, and 23rd in Total Defense) which will be able to stop a mediocre C Mich offense. C Mich does have somewhat of a homefield advantage, but they are 3-4 SU & 2-5 ATS at home this season. W Ken, on the other hand, is 4-2 SU & 6-0 ATS on the road this season.
W Ken's head coach Willie Taggert left to be the head coach for South Florida. W Ken will have their Defensive Coordinator, Lance Guidry, as interim head coach for this bowl game. Which couldn't be better for W Ken since Guidry has been in this position before. He was the interim head coach for Miami Ohio in the 2011 GoDaddy.com bowl game and, after giving a fiery pregame speech, lead the Redhawks to a 35-21 victory against Mid Tenn State. Taggert was watching that bowl game and hired Guidry as defensive coordinator afterwards. I think Guidry will have his team, especially the defense, ready and will use this opportunity to land another job elsewhere (word has it that newly hired W Ken head coach Bobby Petrino will hire former Washington defensive coordinator Nick Holt in place of Guidry).
I don't think Guidry will do anything fancy. I think he will stick to what they do best, which is pound the ball on the ground and play great defense. W Ken is 16th in the nation in 3rd Down Conversions offense, while C Mich is 94th in the nation in 3rd Down Conversions defense. I think W Ken will be able to control the clock (10th in the nation in Time Of Possessions) and will sustain long drives leaving C Mich's defense on the field for an extended period of time. Guidry will be coaching for a job so I think he will have his team focused and will develop a game plan to dominate C Mich in this bowl game. 31-17 Hilltoppers.
