#1 Posted: 12/5/2012 7:23:44 PM talk radio in Atlanta is reporting this .....is this true ? if so how ? why ? Tennessee is a much better job in a much better conference with much more money to be made.
Why would Gundy and Strong stay at Ok State and Louisville instead of accepting Tennessee job ? I am puzzled........ |

#3 Posted: 12/5/2012 11:31:10 PM Gundy played QB for OSU. why would he want to leave his alma-mater? He's a Cowboy through and through.
Why would Strong want to Dooley himself by leaving a successful smaller league team where he is THE MAN, for the chance to fail on a larger level and be a potential outcast in the world of NCAA coaches? |

#4 Posted: 12/6/2012 8:31:57 AM Hey -29-, thanks for the info on Gundy .........it makes a little more sense now that i am aware of that piece of information. even still again, both of these coaches had a great chance to go to a better school, better conference, more money etc.
it seems like a no brainer to mefor one of them to accept this great opportunity. plus, you are assuming that Strong would have a similar experience as Dooley. you may be correct about that or you may not be.....who says Strong couldnt be successful at Tennessee ? |

#6 Posted: 12/6/2012 11:09:14 AM bleedncrimson said it best. Gundy has unlimited support ($$$) and he is a former Cowboy. That program should continue to impress with that kind of support.
I'm not so sure why Charlie Strong is considered such a good coach. I have serious doubts about him.
I'm sure Tennessee will find a good coach sooner or later. Kirby Smart anyone? |

Not sure about Strong. But why would Gundy go? He has developed a pretty strong program that is competitive in the Big 12 and fairly competitive in the nation. Why is Tennessee a better choice / school? It is not. Maybe more money but I am not so sure about that either especially with Pickens throwing money around that program / athletic department left and right.

Plus they love him at OSU.... Not every coach goes for the cash.... There is a lot to be said for coaching at your alma mater and WINNING....
Whoever takes Tennessee job better win SEC East at minimum in four years or they are dead meat. Take a look at that requirement!!!! Florida, Georgia, South Carolina....... Talk about Mission Impossible. |

#9 Posted: 12/7/2012 1:31:37 AM I strongly agree about Kirby Smart. I am from his hometown and know him personally. He has one of the best football minds that I know of, especially defensively. He would be a great fit at Tennessee. He has a great resume, being an assistant at FSU, LSU, Miami, and of course DC at Bama. I think that hiring the young Smart would be a breath of fresh air for the Tennessee program. If he doesn't get this job I guarantee he will be a head coach within 2 to 3 years. |
