#1 Posted: 7/22/2012 3:27:24 PM With all the recent conference realignment if Penn state gets 5 years reduced TV, and no Bowls, they are a liability to the Big 10 and they should consider eliminating Penn State now!!
Possible Fits:
Rutgers
Pittsburg

#4 Posted: 7/22/2012 3:35:18 PM Why sever ties?
SMU was also one of several factors that led to the collapse of the Southwest Conference. To this day, it is the most severe penalty ever handed down to a Division I athletic program. To date, it is also the only time the NCAA has canceled a football-playing school's entire season at any level. |

#7 Posted: 7/22/2012 3:42:25 PM “We are dealing with an unprecedented situation,” Mason said during last week’s interview. “It clearly is a sports-related incident, but it’s also indicative of systemic institutional failures – a moral failure as well a legal failure — and we as a conference want to do everything we can to both send a very strong message to our conference member, and at the same time also help Penn State find ways to really get back to emphasizing the great educational institution that it is.”
Big Ten bylaws give the conference power to punish members failing to provide complete, accurate information during an investigation. Sanctions, which can include suspension of programs or removal from the conference, require approval by at least eight of the 12 schools. |

#15 Posted: 7/22/2012 5:11:37 PM Okay but
The Big Ten’s public response to the Sandusky Scandal this summer — and arguably in November, when it all went down — has been reactive, at best. The league will have its chance to go on the offensive next week.
Behind closed doors, it would appear Delany already has. Remember that, at last year’s Big Ten Media Days, a show was made of Delany having a frank conversation with league coaches about integrity. That was in the wake of the tattoo scandal at Ohio State that led to Jim Tressel’s resignation. As Delany gave that speech, Penn State already knew Sandusky was being investigated by a grand jury, and at least four key school figures — coach Joe Paterno included — had been sitting on an 11-year eyewitness allegation of Sandusky abusing a boy in the shower room of the football offices.
Depends on how much $$$ they can bring the big 10!! The big ten already has Minnesota, and Northwestern losing $$ for them every year, also Indiana cant be making much if anything!! |

#17 Posted: 7/22/2012 5:15:47 PM Why have the most hated team in college sports?? Will that stigma ever leave them? i think no!! If you think they can go 5 years and rebuild and fill the stadium again than maybe, but 5 years is an eternity in college football!! |

#20 Posted: 7/22/2012 5:23:24 PM I would assume Big 10 will reat accordingly:
5 years tv and bowl probation -serious consideration of terminating Penn state!
5 years bowl, 2 years tv probation-consider it, probably no
2 years bowl and tv probation- keep penn state (unless notre dame would commit) |

#22 Posted: 7/22/2012 5:33:58 PM More Penn statey Logic?
That's $53,228,446 in profit. It's a staggering figure. What could you do with that money aside from funding 56 swimmers and divers, 71 lacrosse players, 237 track and field athletes, 35 wrestlers and all the of the other hundreds of Penn State participants in 29 varsity sports.
If you could pay back the 10 established victims of Jerry Sandusky with some of it, that'd be something.
But you can't ever pay them enough. And whatever millions that civil litigation mines will emerge from other spouts of Penn State's liability insurance and 10-figure slush bucket.
So, in some dreamworld, what would you do with that money to create something lasting and good? What if all the so-called “non-revenue” varsity sports that run in the red, many wildly so, suddenly regressed to club status and had to make their own way and support themselves as they did generations ago? And all that profit football makes every year wasn't used on volleyball training equipment and women's basketball plane flights and the like but handed over to child sex abuse charities and causes?
Nah, that'll never happen. I know it and you know it. I just use the illustration as an exercise to show what a monster this whole major college athletic business has become. The money is so huge for a small handful of national football programs such as Penn State that they've developed a culture where each sport depends on football. Everyone feeds at the trough. So many have become dependent.
That's how it got this big at Penn State. And that's why it will stay this big. Too many have too great a stake in it.
That goes for many media outlets who profit from all the readers and viewers who want to know more, more, more all the time about Penn State football.
The Patriot-News and pennlive.com amply included. You won't see me calling for Penn State football to be given a hiatus, will you? I'm not stupid. Penn State football is our lifeblood.
Stephen A. Smith can scream for the NCAA “death penalty.” He has dozens of other sports and teams to pontificate about for the ever more bloated ESPN./p
Christine Brennan can shriek for it in print. USA Today can assign her to something more esoteric tomorrow. Maybe a preview of Olympic rhythmic gymnastics.
Not me, baby. I know where my bread's buttered. Penn State football is the pimp I love and hate. Lately, more the latter. But it owns me, doesn't it? I'm no different than a crack person in need of a fix. And Bucknell basketball won't buy it. |

#24 Posted: 7/22/2012 6:35:18 PM capper as far as Pitt the Big 10 will never let Pitt in as long as they play in the steelers stadium. That's why they didn't get to be the 12th team because of that. The only chance Pitt ever has is to have an on campus stadium. I have nothing against Nebraska but i wanted Missouri 2 years ago in the big 10 and they took Nebraska
It'll probably be Rutgers. They can put the Big 10 network in the NY/NJ market. Since the leaders of these leagues don't care about geography what about Florida State? They want out of the acc, They want more money Big 10 makes a lot.
NCAA do the right thing kill this program |

#25 Posted: 7/22/2012 6:38:36 PM Even after the NCAA is finished with PSU....it may not be completely over.

B1G will wait its turn, but they'll take action (of some sort) as well. |
