OU is historically bad at covering bowl games, and this year should be no different. This has not been the same team since they lost their best RB followed by the loss of the NCAA leading WR of all time. And I won't even discuss the defensive struggles and recent injuries on that side of the ball. The defense struggles against the spread, which makes life in the Big 12 a bit rough. Iowa will expose these weaknesses. And should I be wrong and OU get out to a commanding lead, you can bet Bob will not keep the foot on the gas because A) He's not playing for votes and B) this is his beloved ALMA MATER.
Lines are starting to move so I'm jumping on this in case it settles at 14.
IOWA +16

bigtime iowa homer... while i think 16 is too much, i still wouldn't touch it. Ferentz has an excellent bowl resume and the only really bad game was his early years at iowa in the Orange Bowl. I just think Norm Parker is too stubborn too change his defensive philosophy. He has shown that over the past 7 years against spread teams, primarily Northwestern. He will stand pat in our base D with 4 down, 3 backers and 4 dbs against 4 and 5 WR sets and get torched time and again. It worked out against Mizzou last year, but the talent level of this OU team is off the charts. I know it was a disappointing year for the them, but I would not be surprised to see OU go off for somewhere around 49 or 56 against us. Let's not forget Stoops has Iowa roots for some extra motivation (hoping Norm Parker steps down after the game and we hire Mike Stoops as the replacement at D coordinator)

And just as another little sidebar too, only Florida and USC have had more players drafted the last 2 years then Iowa. We aren't a program to bring in lots of 4 and 5 star recruits, we have to develop our players in-house. So, our talent level as a team is down and this is the #1 pre-season team we are talking about in OU. Like I said, I think 16 is probably too many, but Vegas got it close enough that I wouldn't touch it for either side....

Iowa always is a good play in bowl season. Can't see Sooners motivation in this game at all.
Is Oklahoma ever motivated? Or are they just consistently overrated? Not trying to start a bash party.........just seems like they're always disappointed...........or disappointing.
Have to agree.........16 is a lot to give.

Atltiger - Their key injured starters are done. They will not be returning for the bowl game. This is a team that was walking around two a days with ESPN cameras following their every move. A team that was plum full of expectations that has been battered with injuries and poor schemes and preparation. Every team that gained big chunks of yardage were spreading the young defensive backfield all over the field.
Dogjimbo - I hear you on the speed, but when you consistently bite on wheel routes and play action there isn't enough speed in the world to keep up. Iowa should expose this with plenty of film time and I would think OU would correct this with the same, but do they care about this game at all after going from National Championship contenders to the Insight.com Bowl? Or are they merely using the practices to focus on next year, develop young players?
With no Broyles threat at WR and Whaley speed at RB, in my opinion, this team is not set up to blow anyone out. And if they were, we go right back to the alma mater angle; Bob is open about the fact that he loves his alma mater.
Just my 2 pennies.......

Mugg - I think it is more of a motivation factor. Bob & Co are great recruiters, but not great motivators. Case in point - Review their bowl outcomes during his tenure and ATS record. I don't know what they do during bowl preparation, but every year it seems like they play not to lose, rather than playing to win.
Part of the "playing not to lose" could be attributed to minimal coordinator turnover during his tenure. I don't know what the reason is, but I have little evidence that tells me to expect anything different from this current club.
