First of all there are better cappers than me here, Boom Boom, Nostradamus, Wahoos, and Markdogg have earned their followings by proving for years they are good cappers. But there isn't enough conversation here on how to get the best lines. Look at how much you have gambled at the end of the year and take note at how much you have paid to the damn books. I loved Matchbook and wish it was still available to US customers. Dammit I wish there was a betting service out there that did what they did, put together bettors wanting opposite sides and take only 1%. I've got four basic rules.
1) Minimize the books cut
Right now there is 5dimes offering a reduced rate within 24 hours of a game. If you have just one book 5dimes has to be it because no one else does this at the moment.
2) Prove yourself to yourself before you start going big.
Until you are a consistant winner go small and enjoy the games. It might take years and quite likely the day will never come. (Only a small fraction of sports bettors make a profit)
3) Don't use fucking bookies, go online.
Two reasons for this, one practical, one ethical. The practical one is you are playing with money you already have and you can make very small bets the bookies wouldn't bother with. The ethical one is bookies are some of the worlds biggest assholes. Every Monday they have to collect, and in doing so they don't give a shit if they break up families, or drive suckers into bankruptcy, they collect. Every bookie employs collectors and these guys don't fuck around. Help run the goons out of sports gambling and maybe we can make it as popular as Fantasy sports.
4) Either give yourself an allowance for a season or manage your money by limiting bets to 3% of your bankroll.
It has been proven mathmatically that even if you are a 60% winner over the long run that you will hit zero if you bet more than 3% of your bankroll. Now the alternative to this is to place into an online betting account what you can afford for the season and ride it till it's gone. Guess what, even if you lose, you are making hundreds of games more exciting for a price that can be considerably less per hour than renting movies.
5) Make it fun and keep it fun
If you chase an adrenoline high, than you are doing it wrong. Bet enough to make meaningless games fun to watch, but not so much losing stresses you out.

. Just parlay cards and a few straight bettings here and there. The bookies always had the upperhand with their house-rules. In my case, if you single bet, and it is a push, you automatical loses. SERIOUSLY? Having to win by 7 or 3 pts is hard enough, now you have to win by 8 or 4 pts. Since we have no choice, we have to play by it.
