As a longtime Temple fan, I can't believe what's transpired so far this season. The Navy game was impressive but I couldnt help but think why they didnt put eight or nine in the box. Defenses have to eventually realize that Bernard Pierce is the only threat here. Vaughn Charlton has been an awful awful awful quarterback. He's been inaccurate and has thrown a couple of bad interceptions this season and last game alone. The problem is that Chester Stewart, the backup, isnt learning the offense quick enough. He's got raw talent but seems to struggle at times.
The backbone of this team besides Pierce is the defense. They just don't let the run beat them. Unfortunately, that means they get bitten on the passing attack. Their secondary struggles with giving receivers cushions. Anthony Ferla has improved but still needs work. If the Owls ever decided to play press coverage, their defense would be top 30 in the country but until then their gonna get beaten over the top.
Miami Ohio is coming off their two best efforts of the season. They barely lost to NIU and beat Toledo. An offense that started out the season with 71 points in their first seven has scored 53 in their last two games. The Redhawks are doing it thru the air coming off throwing for 344 yards against Toledo. Granted the Rockets defense is pretty bad but the confidence has to be there on their end.
Clearly, the Owls are the better team. There are a couple of factors that play against them though. First, they are coming off a short week after playing Navy and their quirky style. The adjustments have to be made and not much time is there to make them. Second, they are getting more publicity then they ever have. The AP and USA Today top 25 poll votes bring more attention along with the 15 Harris Votes. Both CBS Sportsline and ESPN people were on the MAC conference call with Coach Golden. The team can't read their press clippings and must play well. Finally, bad teams just don't blow teams out. Temple has proven they arent bad but a few mistakes and all of a sudden they spiral back to the old team they were. The Owls are winning this game but it won't be easy.
Prediction: Temple 28-17

Nice write-up jeff. And I tend to agree with your final score - just too had to give the Owls 17, tho I would have loved to bet them
Their VG rush defense is going to put them in their first bowl in 30 years. I'm not a "fan" of any team (just of the game) but I'd love to see it. Al Golden turned down Syracuse job to win a MAC championship. Nice to see a "commuter school" like Temple in a bowl. (Geez, maybe they'll draw their old Big East rival, Rutgers!)
I had then vs N. Illinois, and passed on them (my bad) LW vs Navy. Tempted this week, and they may blow out what's still a bad Miami OH team. But 2 1/2 tds just too much for me to lay

Like how this young Miami team is coming around since Dysert was inserted...they've played a tough sked and have cut down on the turnovers tho they did catch N.Ill and Toledo with qb issues.
Good read Blakejeff

Thanks fellas. I really hope this is an easy win for the Owls as a fan but I just wonder how they deal with the extra attention this week and adjusting from playing Navy last week.

Blake write me after the game and i will give you a play to recover what you will lose betting the Miami(OH) why would you even put your money on such a team. The season is over for them they cant improve their record none, they have packed it in. watch and learn Vegas is smart

I think Koaj and I discussed this a few weeks back, but looking at the history of a program can tell you alot about how they react in certain situations. Temple has not had a lot of success in the past and are now put in a spot where they are overwhelming favorites, a spot they are not familiar with. They have been double digit favs twice this season versus clearly inferior talent ( Ball St. and Army ). They failed to cover the big number versus the Cardinals and came up with a miracle cover vs. the Black Knights.
I'm not sure they are deserving of laying 17.5 to Miami (OH). I think you're very realistic with the margin of victory prediction here. It wouldn't surprise me to see the last possession decide this pointspread winner.

Zimkid 101 posted on an earlier thread that he has 5,000 on the Temple Owls -17 tonight. That is why he is trying to change your mind.
I agree with Blake Jeff that teams not used to the extra coverage have a tendency to play flat. I don't buy the Navy angle but I do think the Miami passing game has improved and may be enough to cover thius inflated line. .

"Thanks" Blakejeff for the insight on your Temple Owls. Most of us really do appreciate the effort. Obviously not all! Don't know why a capper, thinking opposite, can't provide some good reasoning instead of putting out some useless crap.
