Should the SEC Champion ALWAYS play in the BCS Title?

Okay, okay ... I know a lot of you may disagree with me.  But since the BCS started in 1998, the SEC Champion has been apart of the big game 5 times.  And each time it has a team in the big game, the SEC team wins (Tennessee 1998, LSU 2003 & 2007, Florida 2006 & 2008).  Despite a 'down' year for the SEC, the SEC Champion (Florida) prevailed yet again to win a National Championship.  No question if you make it undefeated in the SEC you are almost a sure lock for the title game (unless you're Auburn).  But what if you have one loss in the SEC ... Is a one loss SEC team better than an undefeated Big East team?  My opinion ... Yes.  Is a one loss SEC team better than an undefeated ACC team?  My opinion ... Yes.  Is a one loss SEC team better than an undefeated Pac 10?  Depends if you're USC. 
 
So I say the BCS formula should be weighted like this...
SEC Champion vs. The next highest team in the BCS
 
Anyone disagree?  Sound OFF ... Let's hear your point of view America ...

I think the real question is should the BCS Championship game always be the SEC champ versus the Big 12 Champ

Its possible.  The Big 12 has had 6 teams in the big game since 1998.  Although I think the SEC is a better conference.

I actually have come around to think that USC is being screwed by the process.  Not the answer I would have given when Auburn was left out, but now I have changed my opinion.

Someone is always going to be screwed by the process.  But its the system in place.  USC is the media darlings of NCAA Football.  They are a top 3 team every year regardless of who is there and who isn't there.  If they go undefeated, they'll be in the game due to their preseason rank.  So the only one that is screwing USC in the process ... is USC!!  2 years ago, they lose to UCLA, last year they lose to Stanford, and this year they lose to Oregon State.  The conference as a whole can't bring them back up if they lose... they basically control their own destiny every year.  They are not being screwed by the process...

There are always teams left out now. This year there were what 4 or 5 teams claiming a right to be in the NC game, Penn st, Texas, USC, Utah, Texas Tech.
 
 If you have an 8 team playoff, then what about teams 9-13, they will be bitching about being left out, and you may have an unbeaten team or 2 left out of it. (Boise st for example)
 
If you had a 64 team playoff, there would still be teams being left out and bitching, see college basketball...
 
Maybe we don't need a playoff, there are 2 major polls, so the AP  poll, that can be prestigous too. USC still claims a NC from 2003 right?

Far better to have teams 9-13 bitching rather than teams 3-7.

Not having a playoff in college football is easily the worst thing about the sport.

How about an 8 team playoff with the first two rounds at the home stadium of the higher ranked team, in december, and championship game in january at a bowl site.  Would LOVE to see some of those SEC teams actually leave their region for a game up north.  What a concept.

Can still have bowls, teams losing in the first and second round could also get in a bowl game.

Money and rating for cfb playoffs would be monstrous.

Oh, to answer the guy who started this thread, congrats, Fla is an awesome program and deserves a lot of praise, but you can't possibly be serious thing the sec should get an automatic bid to the bcs game.  That's more idiotic than the present bcs system, which is saying a whole lot.

What if the state of Florida had it's own conference?  Could it be the strongest conference in America?  (Florida, FSU, Miami, USF, Central Florida, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, FAMU, Bethune Cookman)

Ok let's not get carried away here.  It's not like Florida dominated that game.  Alabama was minutes away from the NC game and they got clobbered by Utah.  I know this thread was meant as a what if, but I'm tired of this SEC crap.  There was no dominant team this year.  They're were as many as 8 teams that could say they were the best. In my opinion Utah was #1, USC #2, UF#3, Texas#4 and Oklahoma #5.

How about ... let's not get carried away.  If UF, USC, Texas, Oklahoma had Utah's schedule .. .they too would be undefeated.  Playing Colorado State, New Mexico, San Diego State, Wyoming, UNLV is NOT like playing Georgia, Tennessee, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State every year.  Let's get real.  If the only thing that matters is record, then let the good teams schedule cupcakes of the Mountain West Conference and then let's if everyone is undefeated if Utah still has a chance at #1.

How about....you not getting carried away, Utah beat oregon state who beat USC, so no, you cannot say they would have been undefeated with utahs schedule,same with UF, TX, and OK.

If Notre Dame played Utah's schedule and had the exact same winning margin on each game as Utah did and ended 13-0 like Utah did........Notre Dame would be a 100% unanimous pick as National Champions.  100% of the first place votes.    No question.

but if florida had the same schedule as utah they would have had a average winning margin of well over 30

although i don't necessarily believe they should always be in it, if oregon goes undefeated in the pac 10 they deserve it over a 1 loss SEC team.

In the BCS National Championship

SEC: 5-0
Pac-10: 1-1
Big 10: 1-2
ACC: 1-2
Big East: 1-2
Big 12: 2-4

Coming from a Pac-10 fan, as long as the SEC continues to prove that no one can beat them in the big game, the winner of the SEC should be an automatic pick in the National Championship game.  Definitely even an undefeated Pac-10 team even.

Stupid post.  USC has not lost to an SEC team in well over 10 years.  Does that mean that they should be automatically rated over every SEC team?  Everyone knows that the National Champion is a "Mythical" Champion, selected by a bunch of voters.  Only two teams can be selected by these voters.  Utah was the best team in the nation last year.  They kicked Alabama's tail, and did not lose a game.  Aslong as College Football is a popularity contest, the NC will be meaningless to most fans.

To the original poster, you are incorrect:

There should be two national champions, a super champ and a sub champ.

The winner of the SEC is the super champ.

Let the other conferences fight it out to crown the sub champ.

It was hilarious watching the big 12 teams cry and fight about who would go get their asses kicked by UF.
