Why is Arizona laying 3 to BYU????

someone help me make sense of this line, why is a 7-5 team laying 3 to the #16 ranked BYU Cougars, seems to good to be true.

Just watch out during the regular season the ranked team that was an underdog only won 25% of the time.

i think i like the over, byu had 2 tough games and got rolled in both, while zona is jekyll and hide, think both offenses can get to 30 here.

because they are the better "team"...BYU put up good offensive numbers very crap competition....

Does anyone else find that when it seems to good to be true, it usually is...especially with sports betting?  It depends on which Arizona team shows up.

i don't think you could say either side in this game is "too good to be true"... Arizona should obviously be favored... but not by much... accurate line!

Let's see...Arizona lost to New Mex and Stanford..what bowls are they going to?  Ariz covered one of 5 road games.  Stoops has no Bowl experience with AZ..the better team?  They couldn't cover against Wash St!!

BYU..2 losses to Utah and TCU, both Bowling and top 15 teams.  Have won 2 Bowl Games in a row...Oregon and UCLA...PAC10!!

Mountain West was 6-1 in Bowl Games last year..a weak schedule?  BYU has 30+ Seniors on this team...do any of you guys look at this stuff!!

I'm with you Sean...wrong team favored here..BYU will roll...

I think the question the linesmakers and the public have with BYU is their motivation.  Everyone questioned BYU last year going into their 3rd straight Las Vegas Bowl when as a favorite they barely beat UCLA 17-16. 
 
This year BYU was thinking BCS, and now they are going back to Vegas.  A lot of fan bases would enjoy a Vegas trip every year more than those at BYU IMO. 
 
I think BYU is undervalued here, but the motivation is a huge question mark.

jp1--when you have 30+ seniors who have 30+ days to read that they are underdogs to an inferior team...think motvation enough...

If you dont think that teams for whatever reasons sometimes decide not to show up for Bowl Games that is fine.  As for Seniors keeping this from happening.  Not so true.  A lot of times these games are springboard games for the following year.  All too often its the guys coming back next year who play the hardest in these games.

I would lean Arizona, but this is a no play for me.  I beleive that the line is accurate.   Both teams have been attrocious on the road.  Really don't know what you are going get out of either team.  BYU nearly lost to UW.....  Arizona D is solid and love to run the ball on Offense.  I think the under 61.5 has much more value. JP, I definitely think it's true.  Every one of these games will have a decided motivational edge to one team or the other.  The key is trying to figure out which team has it...
Or which Coach has it.  Take some time and look at what some of these Coaches have $$ in their Contracts for Bowl incentive$...which games they're in, whether they win or lose.  Some have no bearing.  Some have no reason to get motivated, while others have ton$$ of incentives.  Bowl games are not just about stats...

Arizona has about 5 players that will get drafted.  2 of them should go pretty high.  Their team speed is superior to BYU.  Love Arizona to win ibig in this spot.  Anytime BYU faced a team with athletes and speed, they lost

BYU lost 2 games..to Utah and TCU, think both would've beaten AZ...kinda curious as to your take of "what" Nex Mex had that AZ couldn't match-up with that BYU had no problem with...

I havent made up my mind about this game, but as far as bowl games go its hard to tell what teams are thinking going into the game.  I know that some coaches treat the extra 3 to 4 weeks of practice differently depending on when the bowl is, who they have coming back to the team and who they have leaving, etc. 
 
I know of certain years where coaching staffs in certain situations used the majority of prep time getting younger guys reps and working with the underclassmen.  They used less than 3 practices to install and work on the gameplan.  The idea that teams spend 4 weeks getting ready for a bowl game is absurd in so many cases.  The extra practice time often means more to the coach than winning a bowl game.
