SIck of Pete Carroll and USC whining

Seeing him whine on TV about the BCS this year is painful.  They give him a 4 lane freeway every year to the BCS title  game and he still bitches.
Meanwhile SEC and big 12 teams have to navigate a minefield to get to the championship game.
A few years back he back doored his way to a title, I do not recall him whining then.

Thats why they need a playoff in college football. The top 8 schools.

I understand what you are saying, and at the end of the year a playoff looks like the right idea.
However during the year when the #1 team plays the # 3 team, or a # 2 plays a # 5  the tension is palpable because the entire season is on the line.
If we had a playoff those 5 or 6 times a year when two top 5 or top 10 teams meet would mean very little.
I agree in some respects a playoff works, however a HUGE part of the greatness in college football is EVERY game is life and death.

Yeah, I'm sick of people whining about coaches whining.  You do realize that other coaches like Mack Brown & Urban Meyer have also "whined" about the need for a playoff and how screwed up the BCS is? 

The BCS isn't an exact science right now and it won't be until an 8 game playoff is introduced. 

And when did they backdoor their way into a title?  Are you an Auburn fan?  There were three undefeated teams at the end of the season, what exactly did USC do but blowout Oklahoma to "backdoor" their way to a title?  Did you want to see three teams on the field at once?  Please explain...

Ironic, I was watching family guy when you posted. I am not an Auburn fan, but do you mention Auburn because they were left out of the title game despite being perfect in the SEC?  I do not recall Pete Carroll criticizing BCS format then. A undefeated SEC team out of title is a crime.  I see you live in cali, are you a USC fan?  To answer your other question I do not want 3 teams on the field, but I also do not want some 7 or 8 seed from the big east or pac 10 with one loss and a conference championship getting in to the title game when a one loss team in the SEC or big 12 do not even get a chance to play.

Sorry NFLNightmares, I think I came off kinda douchebaggy with my last post.  I am a USC fan and I'm a little frustrated by all the Trojan bashing recently in the forums but I guess it comes with the territory. 

I was simply wanting to state that Carroll hasn't been the only one to share their disgust for the current BCS system.  I remember hearing Mack Brown during one of the weekday games this last week via phone talking about how he thinks the current system is flawed also.  Les Miles and Urban Meyer have also had some choice words for the system in the past.

There is no exact way on how to fix this problem.  Whether it be with the current system or an 8 team playoff.  You bring up a very good point about who gets those final seeds.  Wouldn't we have the same problem we have now figuring out who the top 8 teams are? 

Sorry if I came off like an ass.  I also wanted to know what you meant by USC backdooring themselves into a championship.  USC did nothing by take care of business that year and it stinks that Auburn didn't have a chance to play for the NC but USC could make the case that the year before when they were #1 in the AP and USA Today polls at the end of the season and didn't get to play that they got shafted.

I don't know exactly how to fix this problem but it's one that will continue to be debated.

All Pete had to do this year was to beat Oregon State with his unmotivated team, then he would have had his usual sinecure in the BCS.  Whine, playboy, whine.  This does not mean that I do not think that USC is a good team, they are, just not good enough this year (or last year, either).

I love watching and betting NFL and college football more than anything. Nothing will ever beat the NCAA mens basketball tournament though. It's all settled on the court unlike college football. All you have to do is get into the tournament and you have a shot to win. Every year the crazy upsets. Small programs beating the elite ones that's what makes it great.
 
I'm a Ball State Alum. Do I think they could beat Florida or Oklahoma ? Probably would get crushed but if they still had Donte Love. I think they could score with either one of them. Ball State's defense sucks. It's very rare Ball State has a football team this good but if they win tonight and tha mac championship they have done everything possible. They won every game on the schedule and there conferance. They can't help that they play in the mac conferance.
 
Boise State and Utah could also be undefeated and get shafted. Boise made the best argument a few years ago beating an elite Oklahoma football program with the last minute statue of liberty play. Now that was like the NCAA mens basketball tournament upset.
 
There is basically a month in December untill the bowl games start. You should have an 8 team playoff. #1 vs 8, #2vs 7, #3 vs 6, #4 vs 5. Just make them playoff games major bowls.

I am a USC fan also, I live in LA. You are 100% right that whoever is the "odd man out" in the BCS carousel is the one bitching. Carroll is not unique.  I also agree that with 8 teams...team 9 10 and 11 will whine.

I am just sick of Carroll losing to a bum team every year and then being in a position to have his hand out begging.  After stanford last year they should have been breathing fire from day one this season.

I agree NCAA hoops is the best, however teams can not play 4 games in 10 days in football so it is not viable. 
Also BCS is big $$$ and they are not just going to give that up to make people happy. That is just reality.

The reality is USC loses to oreg state or stanford to get eliminated.
Where other teams are losing to texas florida..LSU..etc etc

And USC is complaining?

You wouldn't have to play 4 games in 10 days. You have basically have all of December. One game a week for each team. Then play the title game like always Jan 5-9.

these athletes do have finals also. The NCAA has to keep a flicker of integrity and making them play all through dec would be hard politically to sell.

It could be done in 3 weeks. 1st Sat 8 team playoff. 2nd Sat 4 teams left down two. Jan 5-8 Tilte game.

Pete Carroll shouldn't bitch about his team not being in the championship, but he should bitch about getting a playoff. Everyone wants a playoff. Let's get rid of this stupid BCS system. I really could care less about these stupid bowl games. Even the BCS bowls don't mean anything except for the championship.
 
NFL Nightmares - With a playoff, you could play 4 games over 4 weeks. No one is playing 4 games in 10 days. Also, a playoff would actually make more money than the BCS. You could still have bowls for teams that don't make playoffs.

Logistically I am sure something could be done. However you would be minimizing the importance of the key regular season games we all get fired up about. You also will have the teams that just miss the cut whining, especially if they had played and beaten a team or two in the party. This is very possible.
And again BCS is not giving up the $$

It wouldn't minimize regular season games. Everything stays the same for regular season. If you lose more than 1 game during the regular season you aren't going to be in the top 8 playoff.

yes but now in most cases you lose ONE GAME you are out.
or at the very least you are left to scoreboard watching and praying for someone to stumble.

this means that big 12, sec, and maybe even big 10 teams are all allowed a free pass every year to lose a game. How does this not minimize the reg season? So many regular season clashes will lose their luster

It's simple. Wind up undefeated and you are guranteed a playoff spot. 1 loss teams now are praying for someone to screw up. 1 loss doesn't gurantee a playoff spot. There could be 15 teams with one loss.It doesn't minimize anything. Some teams get better as the season goes on. Just because you had one bad game or bad call that cost you the game. Look at the Giants last year a lot of people forget they had to win the last game at Buffalo just to get in the playoffs. They won the Superbowl. My point is a 1 loss team that lost one game early could get an # 8 spot and win the whole thing.

let me ask you something? is it his fault.. he is in a weak conference? he TRIED to scheduled good outside schedule... ND is the only out of conference team that is weak.. is they play just about every year... you see ANY other team schedule BCS school teams out of conference? travel on the road to virginia... against OSU... he TRIED... his conference was considered better in the pre season rankings.. you're not a USC fan.. if you were you wouldnt complain about the whining.. you would hope it works.. kinda like what urban did 2 years ago.. when florida had 2 loss... and went against OSU... now that was come lobbyin/campaigning (whining).. calling yourself a USC fan.... horrible...

Its his fault he lost to a mediocre team this year and an AWFUL team last year. With 20x the  talent on his side of the field.  So yes it is his fault.
Thinking they deserve a title shot is what is horrible.
Having blinders on just because you are a fan of a team is horrible.

they lost to oregonst on the road... who would be favored against old miss at home...  florida lost to old miss AT HOME.. so you're tellin me florida deserves to play more so then USC?

what you're telling me is what you want is USC to go undefeated every year? you know how ridiculous that is?

do you know why he got his title back 03-04? because oklahoma lost to kansas state in the big 12 championship game and STILL got to to the NC and got embarassed.. while everyone but the computers knew USC was the better team.. they proved it the next year by stomping OK by 40+ points... in the NC.. with most starters by both teams returning...
