For me the answer is very very easy. I'm a Yankee superfan up in New England and I've watched every pitch of ever Lester start all year, because up until recently I've tailed him waiting for him to break out of this slump. About 3 weeks ago I finally came to the conclusion that it's not happening. Tailing Lester the rest of the year. He is in the bottom 3rd of MLB pitchers in terms of stuff, command, clutchness and everything else this year. To sum it up, he lost it and he isn't very good, but because of his history the books still give him respect. If you subbed in Aaron Cook into this matchup the line would be -220, and Lester is basically on par with Aaron Cook right now.
He will give up at least 5 runs in the first 4 innings with a pitch count up near 100. Mark my words.

Unit... how can you POSSIBLY have confidence backing Lester right now against a potent lineup? Take everythign else off the table. How on earth can you back Lester. Even if CC gives up 5ER in 6INN which he won't, the Yankees will still be leading at that point.
Last 3 starts-
11 runs on 9 hits, 5 walks in 4 innings
7 runs on 6 hits, 3 walks in 4 innings
5 runs on 9 hits, 2 walks in 4.1

To summarize...
23 runs on 24 hits and 10 walks in his last 12.1 innings.
He has only allowed less than 3 earned runs once in his last 12 or his last 13 games and that was in Oakland, never going more than 7 innings.

Christ, the Red Sox are thinking about optioning him to Triple A right now and you want to back him against the Yankees in NY.
"Spin: There was some talk that the Red Sox would skip Lester's start or move it back a few days to give him some time to work things out, but he will be pitching on Saturday as scheduled. Lester's track record gives him a greater margin for error than most pitchers, but if he doesn't turn it around soon Boston may have to consider a demotion to Triple-A or the bullpen."- ESPN
