#1 Posted: 7/18/2012 2:56:34 PM Is one or both injured? You got a righty on the hill. I just can't quite understand teh logic there. They want to win, correct? Are they both that tired, were they up to 4am playing doctor? I don't get it.
Explain, maybe it is simple and I missed a REAL injury. |

#4 Posted: 7/18/2012 2:59:49 PM thanks, I missed the injury, must have been late in game. Serious injury or a blood blister?
If he is out, you got to tell Carlos he's playing. Every game counts when your trying to make the playoffs. |

#5 Posted: 7/18/2012 3:01:46 PM Holliday got hit by a pitch in the knee of the first inning yesterday and came out a little later in the game. As for Beltran he has been struggling horribly lately batting something like 3 for his last 26. |

#6 Posted: 7/18/2012 3:03:52 PM thigh bruise....c'mon now. You sit Beltran on a day you don't play a guy with a thigh bruise. Football players rip apart there hamstrings and play the same game. He has a discoloration and he sits. Not a big deal if Beltran is there, but if you give Holiday a day off for a bruise, you can't give your big bopper one off for being sleepy. |

#7 Posted: 7/18/2012 3:05:17 PM I'd also like to add that Matheny has been taking this approach a lot this year with day games. As a Cardinals fan it really irritates me, but we have an injury prone team and need to stay healthy down the stretch. After the first couple weeks of play I told myself I wouldn't bet on a Cardinals day game until the lineups were released because of this reason. |

#8 Posted: 7/18/2012 3:07:04 PM The Hulkster wouldn't let a thigh bruise hold him down. |

#9 Posted: 7/18/2012 3:09:47 PM Bell - I don't get it, every game counts. Too many 1 game misses on playoffs. You sit one but not both.
Nasty - The Hulkster of the 80s no way, He'd be there. The "box" one from the Reality TV show would not. |

#10 Posted: 7/18/2012 3:11:54 PM They have really been milking Beltran trying to keep him fresh. I am not surprised. I like Mat Carpenter though, hopefully he can come up with a big hit today. |

I hear ya, I don't agree with it either. Matheny has done some questionable garbage as the new skipper so far. i.e. Pinch hitting a 3-32 life time batter against Randy Wolf in Lance Berkman with runners on 2nd and 3rd, 1 out. Naturally, Berkman strikes out and they eventually strand both runners in a one run game. |

#14 Posted: 7/18/2012 3:31:35 PM switchwalk - playing football games/practice and playing baseball are night and day. Not sure if you've played both. You barely move for two hours in a baseball game, most injuries are diue to a lack of movement and proper stretching (outside of pitcherrs arms)

#15 Posted: 7/18/2012 3:38:16 PM I didnt know holliday was out either, but damn.. a pitch to the knee can do some damage...give em a day off, no need to risk it
my point was that theres no need to put a player back out when there are 161 other games that year that you'll need him for. maybe more if you make the playoffs.... compared to 16 for nfl. each game means more in the nfl so your more likely to press an sore player back into the game
however, agree completely that sitting both wasn't very prudent
....also I only played baseball |
