by that i mean both were so incredibly pimped by the media. heyward in his third season is just an average hitter with average power, and harper is not exactly tearing the cover off the ball.
if the baseball insiders were so wrong about heyward, will they be wrong about harper?

Bryce still has homework at night and can't legally buy a drink.
He has a temper problem. That's his main issue. Other than that, he plays on another level, and older players have to learn what he already has been gifted with.

I saw some analysts discussing how they think Bryce Harper will be a mix between PETE ROSE and _______ (another hall of famer, name is escaping me at the moment!)

People really have zero clue about evaluating players and talent.
Bryce is one of the most talented and skilled prospects. A scout I know said he would have taken Bryce over Josh Hamilton and Hamilton was considered a once in a lifetime prospect when drafted.
Bryce is 19 years old. He would be a sophomore in college if he didnt bypass his senior year and enroll early in JUCO. He is in his 2nd year of playing professionally. Usually a prospect spends 4-5 in the minors being developed before seeing the big leagues. With college players its a little different (2-3 years).
He is holding his own at the ML level and he is still developing and learning. He is going to struggle at 19 years old playing against men who are mostly developed and established ML players. You have to take into account age and the level they are playing at when evaluating prospects and players.
Baseball is the most difficult sport to play and it is also a sport that can break you mentally and no matter how skilled you are it will nto translate if you are mentally gone. Bryce will keep getting better and I told a friend of mine earlier that it will be so much fun watching him grow as a player because he plays old school and hard like Pete Rose. I also told my friend that in about 5-7 years he will most likely be the best player in major league baseball.
Heyward was never as good as Bryce but he is still a very toolsy and talented player. He had a sophomore slump, like most prospects go through, and he is going to have to continue to study film and make adjustments in order ot have success. He is 22 years old so give him time to take his lumps and learn from his failures.

Heyward has an OPS+ 114 this year and a career OPS+ 115. An OPS+ 100 is league average.
Harper has an OPS+ 101 right now.
So Bryce is league average right now and Heyward is better than league average and is approaching being considered a very good hitter if he gets up to +120-125. If you are at an OPS+ 150 or higher you are considered elite.

All the tools are there clearly, but a big part of this game is mental, which can't be seen on film or in live game action.... that's why I find it crazy when prospects are put on a pedestal....
