Arizona Diamondbacks (+127)
Take a look at Carpenter's pitch count in his last 8 starts. (119, 132, 124, 124, 92, 118, 103, 105). That's 917 pitches making an average of 115 pitches per outing. I tried this the last time Carpenter was on the mound against Cincinnati taking the over predicting that Cueto (due to regress) and Carpenter (tired arm) would get shelled and got my ass handed to me in a 1-0 pitching duel. This time I'm not going to mess around with the over in a pitchers ballpark and I'm going with a straight fade of Carpenter. St. Louis has lost 3 in a row despite Pujos' speedy return to the line-up; what makes you think they can't lose another one? Hudson on the other hand has carried the Diamondbacks to 9 victories in his last 10 starts. They are 5-3 on this tough road trip before the all-star-break and they sit only one game back of the defending world champions San Fransisco Giants in the NL West. With two games left before the break, they will be looking for a defiant sweep of the Cardinals to make the statement that they are going to be one of the teams to beat in the NL. Right now they're out of the playoffs - but I predict they win the NL pennant. Hudson, who has been a machine most of this year is pitching on normal rest after a poor 79 pitch performance on the road against the best home team in the majors. He'll bounce back today and give Arizona a fighting chance to win - a chance I think is pretty good considering the abuse Carpenter's arm has taken in the last 40 days. Arizona will be one of several live dogs that bark today.
