*Werth, who's 15 for 35 (.429) with four homers and 14 RBIs in his last nine regular-season games against the Rockies. He was 15 for 36 on the homestand with four homers and 12 RBIs, and leads the team with a .349 average and 26 RBIs.
*Kyle Kendrick (1-1, 5.91 ERA) has recorded one of those victories, yielding two runs over 7 1/3 innings in a 7-4 home win May 27, 2008, and he'll be heading to Coors Field with confidence. After going 0-1 with a 6.71 ERA in five April starts, Kendrick tossed seven impressive innings in a 4-0 win over St. Louis on Wednesday.

*The Rockies have alternated wins and losses in their last six games, completing a 4-5 road trip with an ugly offensive performance Sunday. Colorado mustered four hits against Los Angeles, losing 2-0 despite another fine start from emerging ace Ubaldo Jimenez.
The Rockies also lost shortstop Troy Tulowitzki in the fifth inning to a right quadriceps strain. He's listed as day-to-day, but with a history of quad injuries, Tulowitzki may be forced to undergo an MRI.Outfielder Carlos Gonzalez, leading the Rockies with 25 RBIs, will be away from the team until Tuesday to attend his uncle's funeral, making it even more imperative that Greg Smith (1-2, 6.35) delivers a good start.
The left-hander gave up six runs in an inning against Arizona on April 28 but pitched better in San Diego on Tuesday. Though he walked five in five innings, Smith gave up one run and didn't receive a decision in a 3-2 loss.

*The Yankees had won six straight heading into Sunday's finale at Boston but suffered a rare lopsided loss. Alex Rodriguez's 586th career homer tied him with Frank Robinson for seventh place. Rodriguez doesn't have a hit in three career at-bats against Dontrelle Willis (1-1, 3.99 ERA), who is showing signs of progress after making just 14 starts the past two seasons.
*The left-hander will be opposed by Sergio Mitre (0-0, 2.79), who's making a spot start while Andy Pettitte recovers from left elbow inflammation. Mitre was 3-3 with a 7.16 in nine starts last season, and he's expected to be limited to 70 pitches in his first career appearance against Detroit.

*Willis pitched six shutout innings against the Twins to earn his first win April 29 and retired 12 straight Tuesday at Minnesota after allowing six of the first 10 batters to reach. He didn't receive a decision, giving up three runs over 5 1/3 innings in a 4-3 loss.
*Willis hasn't faced the Yankees since 2006 with Florida.
*Cabrera is batting .357 and has hit safely in all 15 games he's played against New York.
*Harwell spent 42 of his 55 years in broadcasting with the Tigers (17-14) before retiring in 2002, and the man often referred to as the "voice of summer" died at 92 on Tuesday, eight months after revealing he'd been diagnosed with inoperable cancer. Detroit honored Harwell with a ceremony shortly after he announced he was ill, and before the opener of this four-game set with the Yankees (21-9), it'll say goodbye. A flag with Harwell's initials will be raised as part of the festivities.
