Scott Boras fucking things up again.....I dont think he is worth 15 Mill per year.....I am sure some dumb ass will raise the price tag up for the Red Sox....The Red Sox are in a bind....They have to either sign Bay or Holliday.

About time someone didn't give the Red Sox a 'hometown' discount.
Sox would have a 200 M payroll also if they paid their stars what they are worth.
Pedroia is a league MVP, he's worth 10 mil on the open market
Okajima is a serious lefty 8th inning type relief pitcher, he worth significantly more than hes being paid
Ellsbury isn't even making a million, he's another guy who is good enough to secure a 5 year 30m type contract (at least).
Papelbon is an elite closer, he should also be making 10m per.
Jon Lester is a 15 to 20M per year pitcher, look what he's making.
You pay these players what they would get on the open market and Boston's payroll would be touching 200m
For whatever reason, these guys keep playing for peanuts.

Why pay players more than they have to? When extension time comes, that's when you dish out the big bucks. But why pay a player like Pedroia more money than you have to when there is really nothing he can do about it? His time will come when he gets the big bucks. Same with Ellsbury...Same with Lester.
Yes...their payroll will be up there in the high $100 million ranks, but that's WHEN they get those big bucks. And Ellsbury is quite a few years away from that. It's all about how long you've been around. Bruney got paid $1.25 million this season. That's slightly more than Joba, Hughes and Robertson combined. Hinske is getting $1.5 million while Melky (the starting centerfielder) is getting $1.4 million. Because he's been around longer and is still under team control with arbitration and whatnot.

ellsbury and lester havent even hit free agency yet bone head, the red sox extend their young players for a reason.....they dont want them to hit free agency so they give them a good amount of money before that happens to assure them a great pay day a couple years earlier then it would happen and the young players arent gunna turn money like that down in an uncertain market....

I agree...nobody really deserves that much money unless they're curing cancer or something. But in this world that we live in...he's worth about $10-12 million.

The Boston Red Sox are looking for a left fielder and have been mentioned in the market for free agents Jason Bay and Matt Holliday.
FoxSports.com reports that it would benefit Boston to pursue Holliday rather than Bay because it would land the team an additional draft pick. A rival executive told the website that the Red Sox may not intend to keep Bay even though they are negotiating with him.
Under the current system, a team that in effect exchanges one Type A free agent for another actually nets a sandwich pick between the first and second round -- technically losing a first for signing Holliday and gaining one for offering Bay arbitration and letting him sign elsewhere.
Holliday could come at a stiffer price in terms of salary and potentially length of contract, so would it be worth it for the Red Sox?
