The tarp was on all day here, including the last couple of hours when it was totally dry. They pulled it off around 4:30, literally about one minute ahead of a wild downpour that anyone who had bothered to look up could have seen coming down the River. They had to go back out and put the tarp on in a scene that looked like it came straight from Deadliest Catch.It's on again now, and all is good with the world. Too funny.

And what are the bucs going to look like on the field without LaRoche, Wilson, and Freddy?
As I've written in other forums, I REALLY like what the Bucs have done this year - bascially trading a bunch of guys who are the sorts of players who tend to start on lousy teams, for guys who might - might - be considerably better. The only guy I was kind of sorry to see go was Morgan, BUT, odds are he pretty much is what he is and has been for five years, and they got Millage in process. Millage may be a total bust, but his upside is in a different stratosphere than guys like Wilson, Morgan, even McLouth. Basically, they are shkaing up the Yahtzee cup, and hoping to roll a few fours and fives (and maybe even a six). That's what small payroll teams have to do. Sticking with a bunch of guys who have proven relentlessly that they are capable of finishing 6th in a lousy division just doesn't make much sense. NOW, let's see if they actually use some of the money they are saving on Wilson, Sanchez, Snell and LaRoche to go get a few proven guys.

i actually think the pirates are finally stockpiling young talent & not just selling guys off to save a few bucks like they have most of the past 10-15 years. unfortunately there is absolutely NO veteran presence at all to help these young guys. they need a veteran ace or at least a good #2, a veteran middle infielder & a an rbi guy that can fill the 3 hole. the team & the system is now loaded with young talent but even if they start to gel next year it won't matter because 3 years down the line when their ready to make the playoffs they'll have to sell off again.
