I took a stab with the A's at +180 yesterday, and I was done in by the fantastic trio of LaHair/Cairo, and Johjima, with the utility guy driving in runs with his bat and saving runs with his glove. Felix is still less than his former self and should still be decent fade material at those kinds of prices.
Now the mariners get the Twins, this would seemingly go the way of their last series vs the Twins and White Sox. Miguel Batista is back in the rotation ?, I just don't get it. How does not help this team win games in 2008 or either of the next two seasons. RA Dickey has been less than great, but has had bouts of being decent when going on normal rest, the knuckleball guy might be a worthy #5 starter with a small salary, but i guess we'll never know because someone is afraid to run his ass out there every five days. Since I'm already on the topic of bone headed moves, who the fuck would want a rotation of with Washburn, Rowland-Smith, and Feierabend in it ? It didn't take a crystal to figure the latter two would be called up at some point, yet Washburn is still on this team, when you could have unloaded him and the 14 million owed him.
Looking at today's game, The prices on the Mariners are almost getting low enough to warrant a play based on value. The Mariners have won 32.4% of the games not started by felix hernandez, at +185, i've got to correct more than 35% of the time to turn a profit, so I will not be considering that play unless lightning strikes and I think Liriano will be bad and somehow, some way, i think Batista will be good.
24 of the Mariners 82 losses have been by exactly one run, that works out to 29.2%, seems to me the mariners' % was higher earlier this summer, nonetheless, it's tough for me to lay 25 cents juice for a RL, at least i get 9 innings to score if i do it with a road team.
one potential thought might be . . . the twins might suffer from a bit of a let down after winning 8 of 9 before dropping two close ones in anaheim.
fwiw, on a let down note, i think nadal and roger might also be in for a letdown after the french, wimbledon, and the olympics. I wanted to take murray at 14-1, but after talking with a tennis junkie friend, i settled on juan martin del porto at 35-1.
