TBAAC >> IS SHAWN HORCOFF BETTER THAN SIDNEY CROSBY

The comparisons between the two are limited and in no way is Shawn Horcoff at the same level as Sidney Crosby but what he brings to the Edmonton Oilers may have similar value. Both players receive their fair share of criticism but Horcoff receives much less praise. The heart and soul of Horcoff seems to spark something in the Oilers that makes them a better team. With Horcoff out of the line up this year, the Oil are 4-9-4 and with him they are 12-5-3. This record is astounding especially with the added fact that Horcoff is not putting up huge numbers, he is simply a hard working motivating factor in a young up and coming club. In no way am I devaluing Crosby because the guy is an absolute beast in every area of the game and will continue to dominate for years and plays with alot of heart but it is very interesting to look at the value added by character guy like Horcoff. There are soo many players that are taken for granted but the value they added deserves so much more respect. Horcoff. Glencross. Ladd. Cogliano. Bonino. Prust. Obviously all players that make a different impact on their individual teams but do they get the respect and attention they deserve?

as I have stated before, agree 100% of you Rangers assessment, P_B. letting Garorik go to Colombus for Brassard seems to have inproved BOTH teams. Gabby with a goal last night in Nashville while Clowe and Brass bring needed "grit" back to the Rangers. was a complete turn around for Clowe his 1st game in NYC after a bad season (for him) in San Hoser.

as for Horcoff (and others mentioned) vs Crosby, Sid is the STILL the best "pure talent" in the league

although I believe rink rat might be correct with the best pure talent statement,you do need both. I at one time was privileged to watch one of the purest goal scorers who stepped on the ice. but wonder if his numbers would be the same without jethro to the left.

I love what the Rangers have done and am pumped for Clowe coming out soo well with them. Happy they lost to Pittsburgh today tho (check my picks!)

And I totally agree that nobody can even come close to the talent Sid possesses but I was just trying to point out the different value that guys like Horcoff bring to their team.

I did not really look at it from the point of view of how much he makes but I guess thats a big factor in why he is given such a hard time.

I would have to agree, Crosby's play speaks for itself along with his Stanley Cup ring, Gold medal and a plethora of points that not many can even dream about getting. The thread was created more just to get people to thinking about the value of those players you bash or don't think about when watching highlights. I think it is getting that point across as well.

Its probably tough to play in any big hockey market, if you saw Derek Roy on after hours on HNIC (bit dull) but he said he was recognized extremely quickly after he got to Vancouver. In those situations your going to be scrutinized by everybody.

I would agree and I bet almost everyone on here would agree that they would not turn down an offer because it was too much.

Thanks for the post. I never heard that but that sounds hilarious, kind of like Marty Reasoner being comparable to Joe Sakic without the scoring touch?

I think Patrice Bergeron would be a great example of a solid contributing player that flys under the radar without the skills and salaries of a marquee player.
